JH Demons open season with losses
By TIFFANY BELL SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

The Beggs JH Demons opened their season Monday afternoon on the road, falling 11-1 to the Checotah Wildcats in a four-inning contest.

Checotah struck first with a run in the bottom of the first inning before breaking the game open in the second and third frames. The Wildcats plated five runs in each inning, capitalizing on timely contact and forcing pressure on the bases to build an 11-0 advantage.

Despite the early deficit, Beggs continued to compete and found a spark in the top of the fourth inning. Hunter delivered the Demons’ lone hit of the game, while Mudd drove in Beggs’ only run to put the team on the board in the final frame. The Demons finished with one hit, five walks and showed patience at the plate even as Checotah pitchers combined for nine strikeouts.

Bowen started on the mound for Beggs, working two innings against a determined Wildcats lineup. Brendon entered in relief and closed out the final inning, recording a strikeout while continuing to battle in tough situations. Though Checotah finished with six hits, Beggs pitchers limited free passes and continued to throw strikes under pressure.

Checotah’s Duvall and Oleson handled pitching duties for the Wildcats, combining to allow just one hit while striking out multiple hitters across three innings of work.

While the scoreboard reflected a lopsided result, the Demons showed resilience in their first outing of the season. Several players worked quality atbats, and defensively the team continued to compete through the final out. Opening games often provide valuable experience, and Monday’s matchup offered opportunities for growth as the season begins to take shape.

Under coach Brandon Harper, Beggs will look to build on the lessons from its opener and focus on tightening defensive execution and generating more consistent contact at the plate.

With the loss, Beggs begins the year at 0-1, while Checotah improves to 1-0. The Demons will aim to respond quickly as they prepare for their next junior high matchup.

— JH Demons shut out at home The Beggs JH Demons returned home Tuesday but came up short against the Checotah Wildcats, falling 12-0 in a junior high contest.

Checotah capitalized early and consistently, using patient at-bats and pressure on the base paths to build momentum. The Wildcats finished with 12 runs despite collecting just two hits, taking advantage of nine walks to keep innings alive and apply steady offensive pressure.

Beggs pitchers worked through challenging situations throughout the game. Hunter started on the mound and logged 3.1 innings, striking out five while battling through extended innings. Delron and Max each saw time in relief, combining to record additional outs and limit further damage late. Though the Wildcats found ways to score, Beggs pitchers totaled six strikeouts and continued to compete in the strike zone.

Offensively, the Demons searched for rhythm against Checotah’s pitching duo of Reeves and K. Lovett. Beggs drew five walks and had several competitive at-bats but was unable to push a runner across the plate. Reeves worked three innings for Checotah, and K. Lovett closed out the final frame as the Wildcats preserved the shutout.

Despite the final score, there were encouraging signs for the Demons. Defensively, Beggs continued to communicate and work through situations as the game progressed. Players showed improvement settling under routine plays and staying engaged even as the deficit grew.

Under coach Brandon Harper, the focus remains on development and growth as the season unfolds. With several players gaining valuable early experience, the Demons are building foundational skills that will benefit them in upcoming matchups.

Beggs moves to 0-2 on the young season, while Checotah improves to 2-0. The Demons will look to regroup, tighten up defensively and generate more consistent contact at the plate as they prepare for their next junior high contest.
