Jane Laxton

December 13, 1929 – February 19, 2026

On February 19, 2026, Jane Laxton, age 96, a lifelong resident of Okmulgee, died peacefully at home with her family and beloved pets surrounding her with love, while being ushered home by Gene Autry singing her favorite songs. Jane was born at home on December 13, 1929, to parents Bill and Pearl Horton Roberts.

Jane attended Webster School and graduated from Okmulgee High School in 1947. In September of that year, she began working for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as a telephone operator. When the Okmulgee office closed in 1978, she transferred to the Tulsa office.

Jane continues to live in the hearts of her surviving family: son, Dr. Kenneth R. White (Dr. Carl Outen) of Afton, Va.; daughter Brenda Wilson (Brad) of Okmulgee; daughter, Teresa Ward, of Wimberley, Texas; granddaughter Tara Dry (Billy) of Collinsville; grandson, Hutch Laxton (Stacy) of Stillwater; granddaughter Kelly Caskey of Lenexa, Kansas; seven great grandchildren, Kaylen Heath (Brandon) Talley, Ryan and Aiden Caskey, Barbara Laxton, Maddox, Lynlee and Tomi Jane Dry; and a special sisterin- law, Mae Casey of Okmulgee. She leaves behind her beloved fur babies that brought her tremendous joy and comfort: Penny, Ellie, and Gigi.

Jane’s husband of 48 years, Tommy Laxton, preceded her in death in 2021. She is also preceded in death by her parents; brothers Cecil Webb and Wilbert Webb, sisters Florence Denton and Jessie Crafton; special nephews, John Webb and Victor Webb; niece, Elisha Been, son Wendell Laxton and son-in-law Bill Ward.

Jane was a life member of Butler United Methodist Church in Okmulgee. When it closed on December 31, 2008, she transferred her membership to First United Methodist Church in Morris. She was also a longtime member of T.O.P.S Club and the Tulsa Telephone Pioneers.

Jane will be remembered for her loving and generous hospitality, her love of animals, and the many pen pals over her life with whom she established meaningful friendships and perfected her cursive penmanship and the anticipated joy of mail delivery.

Graveside services were held at Okmulgee Cemetery on Monday, February 23, 2026, at 2 p.m. Jane’s family is eternally grateful for the caregiving team at Seasons Hospice in Muskogee. Each member of the team lovingly cared for her for over a year, becoming a part of Jane’s extended family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Okmulgee Humane Society, P.O. Box 663, Okmulgee, OK 74447.

Services have been entrusted to Schaudt Funeral Service. Friends & family may leave condolences and kind words of comfort at www.schaudtfuneralservice. com.
