GCTC to launch Frontline course

Okmulgee-area professionals looking to strengthen leadership skills and advance workplace effectiveness will soon have a new opportunity through Green Country Technology Center.

GCTC’s Workforce & Economic Development division has announced the launch of a new Frontline Leadership course beginning March 25, 2026, aimed at supervisors, team leads and aspiring managers seeking practical tools to lead teams and improve organizational performance.

The 10-week, in-person program will be held Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to noon at GCTC W.E.D. Services, 1614 E. 9th St. in Okmulgee, with instruction led by Dode Barnett. Participants who complete the program will receive a certificate recognizing their achievement.

— Building Leading for Today’s Workforce

According to program organizers, the course is designed to address the growing need for effective frontline leadership across local industries and organizations. Participants will gain hands-on skills in employee engagement, communication, coaching, conflict management, performance development and team building.

Program materials indicate the course will help learners understand the behaviors and attitudes required for effective leadership while equipping them with tools to connect with employees and create high-performing teams.

In addition to classroom instruction, tuition covers curriculum modules, leadership notebook materials, quick-reference tools and two DISC personality assessments intended to help participants better understand communication styles and workplace interactions.

— Comprehensive 10-Session Curriculum

The Frontline Leadership program will be delivered through a structured series of sessions addressing key supervisory competencies.

Early sessions will focus on the role of the leader and transitioning from frontline employee to supervisor, followed by instruction on managing different personalities using the DISC framework. Additional modules will explore employee motivation, teamwork and collaboration, and communication effectiveness.

Later sessions will provide practical strategies for delivering clear direction and feedback, developing employees through a structured model, conducting coaching conversations, managing workplace conflict and guiding teams through organizational change.

Organizers say the progression of topics is intended to provide participants with a well-rounded leadership foundation applicable across industries.

— Opportunity for Local Workforce Development The upcoming course represents another workforce development initiative aimed at strengthening the regional talent pipeline – a priority frequently emphasized by economic development leaders throughout Okmulgee County as employers seek skilled supervisors capable of guiding teams and sustaining growth.

GCTC officials noted that tuition assistance may be available for qualifying participants. Individuals interested in financial aid can contact the GCTC Financial Aid Office at 918295-4629 or email nherring@gctcok. edu for more information.

Registration details are available by calling 918-758-0840 or visiting the program webpage at shorturl.at/ xNUqZ.

With enrollment now open, the Frontline Leadership course offers area businesses and employees an opportunity to invest in professional growth while strengthening leadership capacity across the community.
