Members of P.E.O. Chapters Z and ER recently gathered in Okmulgee to celebrate Founder’s Day, continuing a longstanding tradition of honoring the organization’s history while reaffirming its commitment to advancing educational opportunities for women.
Each year, the two Okmulgee chapters meet jointly to commemorate the founding of P.E.O., an international philanthropic organization dedicated to supporting women’s education through scholarships, grants and other programs. The observance this year included official proclamations recognizing Founder’s Day from both the Governor of Oklahoma and the Mayor of Okmulgee.
As part of the program, members of Chapter Z presented a special tribute to the organization’s seven founders. The presentation included letters written by granddaughters and younger relatives of the founders, sharing personal memories and reflections that provided a unique and meaningful perspective on the women whose vision launched the organization.
The meeting also featured a guest presentation by Anthony Nieto of Green Country Technology Center (GCTC), who shared a history of the center along with updates on current programs and opportunities available to students in the region. His remarks highlighted the importance of career and technical education in preparing students, particularly young women, for a wide range of in-demand careers.
In addition to the formal program, the gathering provided an opportunity for fellowship and the strengthening of the bonds of sisterhood that have long been a hallmark of P.E.O. The chapters continue to work together locally to support educational initiatives and encourage women to pursue their academic and professional goals.
