Our God, Jehovah God of Heaven, would not be God if He were not omniscient – all knowing. The Bible tells us He knows the end (of everything) from the beginning. It seems a small matter, therefore, that he “knows all about us,” and we can say confidently, “He knows us better than we know ourselves.” This is a fact that most of the time we forget or ignore and many times we want to forget. It has been said that God loved us before we ever knew Him, but more than that He knew us and loved us before we ever came to be (Jeremiah 1:5). Isn’t it amazing that He knows everything about us, “the bad and the ugly” and still loves us. Let’s consider now some things God knows about us.
First of all, He knows our ancestry. The poem, “Children Learn What They Live,” by Dorothy Law Nolte comes to mind here. It breaks our hearts to hear of the unspeakable environment some children are born into and reared in. But God has overridden such circumstances and provided a “new birth,” as described in John 3, available for every person, placing them into the family of God. Some children never come to know their biological father and/or mother. God becomes their Heavenly Father when they accept Jesus as their Savior and Lord. Psalms 68:5 tells us that God is “A Father to the fatherless.”
Next, we find that God knows our abilities and gifts which He has given us. Jesus tells us in Luke 12:48, “For unto whomsoever much is given of him shall be much required.” God has not gifted us all alike and things that others may do with ease can be an impossibility to us. However, He expects us to develop the talents He has given us as illustrated in Matthew 25:14-30 and enables us to do anything He calls us to do.
In Luke 8:14 we see that God knows about our aspirations. Jesus gave the parable of the sower who went out to sow the Word of God and described the different kinds of ground on which the seed fell. Of the seed that fell among thorns, He said, “And that which fell among the thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life.” The remedy for this sad situation is found in Colossians 3:1-2, “Seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.” This is eternal life-saving advice for the lost who do not know God and a warning for the child of God. The Bible urges all of us to “Seek ye the Lord while He may be found,” (Isaiah 55:6).
The Bible assures us in many Scriptures that God is aware of all our anxieties and afflictions. I Peter 5:7 encourages us, “Casting all your care upon Him, for He careth for you.” We are promised in II Corinthians 1 that our God is the God of all comfort who comforts us in all our tribulations. Many today are anxious not only about the uncertainties of life, but are fearful and uncertain of life after death. Hebrews 2:14-15 assures us that Jesus has the answer for He has destroyed “him who had the power of death, that is the devil,” and delivers us from fear of death through His glorious salvation.
The song by Mosie Lister reminds us that God truly knows and cares about us, “My Jesus knows just what I need. Oh yes, He knows just what I need. He satisfies, and every need He supplies. Yes, He knows just what I need. Amen!
