Tigers claim district title, advance to regionals

The Wilson Tigers are carrying momentum into regional play after a dominant district championship performance last week, while the Lady Tigers will look to bounce back in the consolation bracket following a narrow loss in their district final.

Wilson left little doubt in its district title game against Depew, turning in one of its most complete performances of the season in an 86-25 victory.

The Tigers set the tone early, jumping out to a 17-4 lead at the end of the first quarter and extending the margin to 42-9 by halftime. Wilson’s defense continued to stifle Depew in the second half, holding the Hornets to just six third-quarter points while the Tigers surged ahead 67-15 entering the final period.

Wilson closed out the game with another strong quarter to seal the 61-point win and secure the district championship, keeping their postseason hopes alive on the Road to the Coliseum.

— Lady Tigers fall in tight district battle The Wilson Lady Tigers were locked in a backand- forth contest against Covington-Douglas in their district championship game, ultimately falling just short in a 52-50 decision.

Wilson led 16-9 after the first quarter, but Covington-Douglas rallied to tie the game at 24-24 by halftime. The Lady Tigers regained a slim edge in the third quarter, holding a 40-39 lead heading into the final period, but Covington-Douglas edged ahead in the closing minutes to claim the two-point victory.

Despite the loss, the Lady Tigers remain alive in postseason play and will continue their season in the regional consolation bracket.

The district tournament also brought a significant personal milestone for Wilson’s Jaslene Proctor, who surpassed 500 career rebounds. Proctor’s achievement highlights her consistent presence on the boards and her impact on the Lady Tigers program, with the total continuing to grow as the postseason continues.

— Regional play begins

Regional tournaments began this week, with both Wilson teams traveling to Earlsboro and Glencoe as they pursue a berth in the Area Tournament.

The Tigers, as district champions, entered the winners bracket and opened regional play Tuesday night against Earlsboro. A victory would advance Wilson to the regional championship game at Glencoe, where both the winner and runner-up move on to Area competition.

The Lady Tigers, meanwhile, moved into the consolation side of the bracket and are scheduled to face Woodland on Thursday evening at Earlsboro. With a win, Wilson would advance to the next round of consolation play at Glencoe, needing multiple victories to keep their postseason hopes alive and earn a trip to Area.

With the postseason now in full swing, the Tigers will look to carry their high-powered offense and suffocating defense into regional competition, while the Lady Tigers aim to regroup and make a run through the consolation bracket.

Both teams continue to represent Wilson with determination and resilience, and with the stakes rising each game, every possession now carries added importance on the path toward state tournament dreams.
