Beggs doubles up Knights in regular season match
By TIFFANY BELL SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

The Beggs Golden Demons used a dominant second half to turn a competitive start into a convincing 60-30 victory over Henryetta in a varsity regular season matchup.

Both teams came out with energy in the opening quarter, battling evenly on both ends of the floor. Beggs received four early points from Rickey Smith and a basket from Baker Copeland, while Henryetta answered with scoring from Mavrix Randleman, James Joslin and Kashton Montgomery. The teams finished the first period tied at 6-6.

Beggs began to create separation in the second quarter, outscoring the Knights 14-8 to take a 20-14 lead into halftime. Smith continued to lead the offensive effort with four points in the period. Copeland added two, while Jordan Wesley contributed two. Brayden King and Peyton Kelley each knocked down three points to help the Demons build momentum.

Henryetta stayed within reach behind balanced scoring. Joslin added four points in the quarter, while Kade Sanders scored three and Montgomery added a free throw to keep the Knights within striking distance at the break.

The game turned decisively in the third quarter as Beggs delivered its strongest stretch of the night. The Demons erupted for 23 points while holding Henryetta to 10, pushing the lead to 43-24 entering the final period.

Smith again led the surge with five points in the quarter. Wesley added six, while Aiden Taylor scored three. Trey Ross, AJ Estrada and Mike Lewis each contributed two points, and Brayden King added two more as Beggs’ offense found rhythm from multiple sources.

Henryetta’s offense was paced by Max Nye, who scored seven points in the third quarter. Joslin added two and Gavin Williams chipped in one, but the Knights were unable to match Beggs’ offensive pace during the decisive stretch.

Beggs continued its strong play in the fourth quarter, adding 17 points to close out the game. Wesley and Smith each scored four points, while Copeland added three. Bobby Baker contributed four points in the final period, and Ross added two as the Demons maintained control.

Henryetta managed six points in the final quarter, all from Nye, who finished as the Knights’ leading scorer with 13 points.

Smith led all scorers with 17 points to pace Beggs’ balanced attack. Wesley followed with 12 points, while Copeland finished with seven. Bobby Baker added five, and Brayden King contributed five. Ross scored four, while Taylor added three and Kelley finished with three. Estrada and Lewis each chipped in two points.

For Henryetta, Nye’s 13 points led the way. Joslin added eight points, while Montgomery and Sanders each finished with three. Randleman scored two and Williams added one to round out the Knights’ scoring.

The win improved Beggs to 8-14 on the season as the Demons used depth, defensive pressure and a strong third-quarter performance to take control. Henryetta moved to 4-16, keeping the game close early before Beggs’ second-half surge created the separation to decide the game.
