The future of Dewar athletics was on full display this week as the Dragons’ junior high powerlifters turned in an impressive performance at the JH 8-Man State Powerlifting Meet, bringing home multiple top finishes and showcasing the strength and determination that continue to define the program.
Leading the charge for Dewar’s eighth-grade competitors were two state champions. Malachi Bogart powered his way to a 1st-place overall finish in the 198-pound division, demonstrating both strength and consistency across his lifts. Joining him atop the podium was Drayden Smith, who captured 1st overall in the 132-pound division, adding another championship to the Dragons’ tally.
Dewar also placed several other lifters among the top finishers in the eighth-grade field. Maddix Lucero earned 3rd overall in the 198-pound division, while Braiden Sturgeon secured 5th overall in the 132-pound division. Timmy Cantrell rounded out the eighth-grade results with a 5th-place finish in the 181-pound division, contributing to a strong overall team showing.
The seventh-grade group also made its presence felt on the platform. Brody Morrow delivered a standout performance to finish 2nd overall in the 132-pound division, narrowly missing the top spot. Dale Ginn added another podium finish for Dewar, taking 3rd overall in the 114-pound division.
Coaches and supporters praised the athletes not only for their results but also for the discipline and commitment required to compete at the state level. Powerlifting demands months of preparation, precise technique and mental focus, and the young Dragons demonstrated those qualities throughout the competition.
Programs like Dewar’s junior high powerlifting team have become an important foundation for long-term success in high school competition. Early exposure to training, competition routines goal-setting helps athletes develop both physically and mentally, preparing them for future seasons.
The results at the state meet reflect the dedication of the athletes, the guidance of their coaches and the support of families and the Dewar community. With multiple lifters already reaching the top of the podium and others finishing among the best in their divisions, the outlook for Dragon powerlifting remains strong.
As one supporter summarized following the meet, the performance showed clearly that “the future of Dragon powerlifting is looking bright,” a sentiment shared by many who watched these young athletes compete with confidence and determination.
