Princess Moments Await
By Patrick Ford Editor

On a night filled with twirling dresses, polished shoes and proud smiles, fathers across Okmulgee will soon take to the dance floor with some very special partners – their daughters. For many families, the annual Father-Daughter Dance hosted by the Okmulgee YMCA is more than just a social event. It is a cherished tradition where time slows down, laughter fills the room and lifelong memories are made one song at a time.

Set for Saturday, Feb. 21, from 6-8 p.m., the semi-formal evening invites girls ages two to 14 and their fathers or father figures to share an unforgettable night designed entirely around celebrating their unique bond. From the moment families walk through the doors, the atmosphere is crafted to make every young lady feel like royalty while creating meaningful moments between generations.

The evening will begin with a heartfelt gesture as fathers present their daughters with a flower, a simple but touching tradition that often becomes one of the most treasured memories of the night. As music fills the venue, families will take to the dance floor, guided by a DJ spinning a variety of songs sure to appeal to both generations. Between dances, participants can enjoy refreshments, including punch and cookies, while professional photographs help capture memories families will cherish for years to come.

The dance has grown into a community favorite, not only because of the fun it offers but also because of the lasting impact it creates. For many daughters, the event becomes a highlight of their childhood, while fathers gain an opportunity to step away from busy schedules and focus on strengthening their relationship with their child.

Participation is limited to registered guests, and females age 15 and older are not permitted to attend. YMCA officials also recognize that every family situation is different. Girls whose fathers are unable to attend are welcome to participate with another trusted male adult who is at least 18 years old.

Attendees can sign up either online or at the YMCA front desk. Admission is $30 for YMCA members and $40 for non-members.

Each year, the Father- Daughter Dance reflects the YMCA’s mission of strengthening families and building community connections. As another magical evening approaches, organizers encourage families to secure their spot and prepare for a night filled with music, smiles and moments that will remain in their hearts long after the final song ends.
