The Preston Volunteer Fire Department continues to stand as a vital lifeline for the Preston community, providing fire and rescue services through the dedication of local volunteers who serve with commitment and pride.
Leading the department is Fire Chief Ty Sharp, supported by Brian Thomason, Assistant Fire Chief and Jackie Dodson, who serves as Treasurer and Secretary. Together, the leadership team oversees daily operations, training and readiness, ensuring the department remains prepared to respond when the community needs help most.
The Preston Volunteer Fire Department is made up of a strong group of volunteers who give their time and skills in service to others. Current members include Ernie Sharp, Ty Sharp, Vincent James, Matthew Vogt, Michael Vogt, Jackie Dodson, Brian Thomason, Gary McCollum Jr., Jessica Best, Richard Sharp, Adam James, JD Nelson, KJ Bagby, Malachi Flud and Cody Barnes. Each plays a role in maintaining the department’s mission of protecting lives and property throughout the Preston area.
Over the past year, the department has made significant investments in safety and equipment to better serve the community. The department purchased 10 reconditioned self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) along with 20 new air cylinders, enhancing firefighter safety and operational capability during emergency responses. In addition, a 2025 Chevy 1-ton truck has been placed into service, further strengthening the department’s fleet and response capacity.
In 2025, the Preston Volunteer Fire Department responded to 69 calls, reflecting the ongoing demand for emergency services within the community and the readiness of its volunteers to answer those calls at any hour.
As a Hometown Heroes honoree, the Preston Volunteer Fire Department represents the spirit of service and dedication that defines volunteer emergency responders. Through continued training, equipment upgrades, and the selfless work of its members, the department remains a cornerstone of safety for the Preston community.
