Plainview Volunteer Fire Department

The Plainview Volunteer Fire Department continues to stand as a cornerstone of safety and service for rural southeastern Okmulgee County and portions of southeastern Okfuskee County, marking 30 years of service to the community with continued growth, investment and a deep commitment from its volunteers.

Founded in December 1995, the department celebrated its 30th anniversary late last year, reflecting on three decades of protecting lives and property while steadily evolving to meet the changing needs of the area it serves.

— A Legacy Built on Leadership & Longevity The department’s success is rooted in long-standing leadership and dedication. Several members have devoted decades of service, a testament to the strength and continuity of the organization.

Additional members continuing to build the department’s future include Tylor Sullivan (three years), Quinton Short (three years) and Bethany Sullivan (one year).

“These numbers aren’t just years – they represent countless calls, late nights, training hours and sacrifices made for the community,” department leaders said. “Our volunteers truly are the backbone of Plainview.”

— Growth Through Equipment & Training As the department looks ahead, recent investments have strengthened its operational readiness.

Among the most significant upgrades is the addition of Brush 308, a new brush truck that replaces an older unit and enhances the department’s ability to respond to grass and wildland fires – a frequent concern in rural areas.

The department has also added two additional trucks designated for chief officers, training purposes and departmental business, improving response coordination and efficiency.

Further safety improvements include the purchase of new helmets and shields, ensuring firefighters have updated protective equipment while on scene.

“These upgrades directly impact our ability to respond quickly and safely,” department officials noted. “They help ensure our firefighters are protected and our community receives the best service possible.”

— Serving Beyond the Fireground Beyond emergency response, the Plainview Volunteer Fire Department remains active in community outreach, fire prevention education and mutual aid support. The department regularly assists neighboring agencies in Weleetka, Henryetta, Dewar, Salem, Wilson and Schulter, reinforcing the cooperative spirit among area departments.

A favorite community connection continues to be Firedog Stan, the department’s beloved mascot introduced in 2023. Named in honor of founding Fire Chief Stanley Page, Stan has become a familiar face at school safety programs, public events and local celebrations, helping teach fire safety lessons in an engaging way for children.

— Looking Ahead As it enters its fourth decade, the Plainview Volunteer Fire Department remains focused on preparedness, training and service – values that have defined the organization since its founding.

“With the dedication of our volunteers and the support of the community, we’re proud of where we’ve been and excited about where we’re going,” department leaders said. “Our mission remains the same: to protect our neighbors and serve with integrity.”

The Plainview Volunteer Fire Department is located at 32400 S. 200 Rd. in Weleetka. For more information or to inquire about volunteering, residents may call 918-716-8119.
