Lady Eagles drop pair of tourney losses

Morris falls to Red Oak in opener The Morris Lady Eagles opened play at the Patrons Bank Tournament with a tough matchup against a fast-paced Red Oak squad, falling 72-29 in their opening-round contest.

Despite the final margin, Morris showed flashes of promise throughout the game, with multiple players finding the scoring column and the Lady Eagles continuing to work through early-season adjustments against tournament competition.

Red Oak established control early, building a double-digit lead in the first quarter and steadily extending it as the game progressed. Morris continued to battle on both ends of the floor, but Red Oak’s depth and tempo proved difficult to overcome.

Morris’ strongest offensive stretch came in the opening quarter, where the Lady Eagles kept pace early before Red Oak pulled away late in the period. The Lady Eagles added seven more points in the second quarter and continued to compete through the second half, adding nine points after halftime.

• Shelby Washington – 1 point Kailyn Fixico led Morris offensively, scoring in each half and finishing with a team-high nine points. Alayna Fixico followed closely with seven points, including a strong third-quarter effort. Amy Gehring and Taylor Phillips each provided scoring support from the perimeter, while freshman Tenli Barnett and senior Shelby Washington also contributed.

— Wewoka tops Lady Eagles in 54-40 win The Morris Lady Eagles ran into a strong second-half push from Wewoka on Thursday, falling 54-40 on the second day of the Patrons Bank Tournament in Preston. After battling through a competitive opening half, Morris struggled to keep pace offensively as Wewoka used balanced scoring and steady pressure to create separation in the final two quarters.

The Lady Tigers held a slim 13-10 edge after the first quarter, before Morris settled in defensively to stay within reach at the break. Wewoka carried a 26-18 lead into halftime, but the Lady Eagles remained within striking distance following a strong stretch of inside scoring.

Wewoka took control in the third quarter, outscoring Morris 17-16, then sealed the win by limiting the Lady Eagles to just six points in the final period while adding 11 of their own.

Despite the loss, Morris received solid production from multiple players, with several freshmen and underclassmen continuing to log meaningful varsity minutes against tournament competition.
