David Robert Henson

David Robert Henson of Henryetta passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at the age of 81. He was born on January 24, 1944, in Okmulgee to Robert Oscar Henson and Gladys Evelyn (Lawson) Henson.

David was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, educator and man of great faith. He married the love of his life, Judith Ann Fraser, on August 15, 1981, in Okmulgee, and together they built a life rooted in love, service and family.

A proud veteran, David honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he dedicated his professional life to education, working as an instructor in higher education. He was known as an avid reader and a lifelong learner, valuing knowledge and thoughtful conversation. David was also known to be a great story teller, spinning many tales of family lore and legend.

David was a faithful member of Dewar First Baptist Church, where he served as a Sunday School teacher and volunteered his time generously. He was known for his steady presence, quiet wisdom and willingness to help wherever he was needed. He also spent many years working tirelessly in maintenance roles, never shying away from hard work.

He is survived by his loving wife, Judith “Judy” Ann Henson of the home; his son, Jeremy Shawn Howell of Wilson; his daughters, Holly Henson-Cruce and husband Jason of Morris and Laurel January 24, 1944 – January 22, 2026

Stokes and husband Mark of Palm Bay, Fla.; and his cherished grandchildren: Mariah Ingersoll, Dalton Longan, Jaxon Longan, Taya Longan, Wyatt Simmons, Brooklynn Pritchard, Brandon Howell, Katie Hurst, Whitney Arrington, Courtney Howell, Cody Howell, Matt Howell, Erin Howell, Dylan Howell, Kylie Howell and Addison Howell. He is also survived by a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends.

David was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings Mary Lou Cline, Joanna Lloyd, Ronald Henson, James Henson and Ralph Henson; and his children Rusty Howell, Michael “Bobby” Howell and Heather B. Longan.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 29, 2026, at Dewar First Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Ryan Wells, with a eulogy by Holly Henson-Cruce.

David’s life was one of quiet faithfulness, service to others and deep love for his family. He will be remembered as a man who gave freely of his time, wisdom and heart, and whose legacy lives on through the many lives he touched.
