Carol Jean Pratchard

Carol Jean (Horn) Pratchard, age 77, went to be with Jesus on January 23, 2026.

Carol was born on October 20, 1948, at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Oklahoma City. She grew up in eastern Oklahoma, where she developed a lifelong love of horseback riding, was a star cheerleader and always enjoyed dancing – bringing energy, spirit and joy wherever she went.

She attended Connors State College, where she earned her associate’s degree in business and met the love of her life, Carl Ray Pratchard, Jr. The two were married on January 24, 1969, in Ada. Carol later earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Early Childhood Education from East Central University, further deepening her lifelong dedication to teaching and advocacy.

Carol devoted 38 years to teaching in the classroom, giving her whole heart to education. She was a passionate advocate for children, especially those with special needs, and worked tirelessly to connect with her

students and their families. She believed deeply in every child’s potential and was known for her patience, compassion and unwavering commitment to helping each student feel seen and valued.

Carol found great joy in supporting her family’s passions. She especially loved attending University of Oklahoma football games with her husband and son, Cody, to cheer on her other son, Jeremy, who was on the drumline. She was well known for hosting unforgettable tailgates for Jeremy’s drumline friends – welcoming everyone with warmth, food and genuine hospitality.

Above all, Carol adored her grandchildren more than life itself. She was deeply devoted to Bella (18), Max (15) and Conner (8), taking sincere interest in everything they loved and pursued. Whether listening intently to their stories, celebrating their accomplishments or cheering them on from the sidelines, she was their biggest fan and constant source of encouragement.

She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Carl Ray Pratchard, Jr.; her sons, Jeremy Pratchard and wife Lauren of Jacksonville, Fla. and Cody Pratchard of Norman; and her beloved grandchildren, Bella Pratchard, Max Pratchard and Conner Pratchard.

She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved both of her sons deeply and was proud of the men they became. Her life was defined by love, service and generosity of spirit. Her legacy lives on through the many lives she shaped in the classroom, the family she cherished, and the countless people who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Arrangements and cremation services have been entrusted to McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee. Memories, condolences, photos and videos may be shared with the family on Carol’s Tribute Page at www.mcclendon- winters.com.
