Residents interested in severe weather safety and community preparedness are invited to attend a Storm Spotter Training hosted by Okmulgee County Emergency Management (OCEM) in partnership with the National Weather Service.
The free training will be held Saturday, Jan. 31, at 9 a.m. at Green Country Technology Center, 1100 OK-56 Loop in Okmulgee. The event is open to the public and requires no prior experience.
The class will cover how to identify key features of severe storms, including wall clouds, funnel clouds and hail cores, as well as when and how to safely report weather observations. Participants will also learn how reports from trained storm spotters are used by meteorologists and emergency officials to improve warnings and help protect lives during severe weather.
OCEM officials say the training is ideal for storm enthusiasts, first-time spotters, emergency responders, outdoor workers and anyone who wants to be better informed during Oklahoma’s severe weather season. Community members are encouraged to attend, as informed and prepared citizens play an important role in local emergency response efforts.
