MGA shines at U.S. Junior Open Championships

The Mojo Grappling Academy (MGA) kicked off the new year in impressive fashion at the United States Junior Open Championships, where some of the toughest young wrestlers from Oklahoma and surrounding states gathered at the OG&E Coliseum in Oklahoma City to test their skills on the mat.

MGA made its presence felt throughout the tournament, with multiple athletes earning podium finishes and showcasing the strength and depth of the academy’s growing wrestling program.

Leading the way was Tucker Nuckolls, who was crowned USJOC Champion in the 8U 105-pound division. Nuckolls went a perfect 3-0 in his open bracket, with all three victories coming by pinfall. After getting a late start to the season due to a football injury, Nuckolls’ dominant performance pushed his season record to 11-3, marking a strong return to competition.

Aryzona “Nona” Cummings delivered one of the most remarkable performances of the weekend. Wrestling in just her first year in the sport after starting in July, Cummings captured the 10U Novice 120-pound USJOC Championship while competing against boys. She pinned both opponents in a combined mat time of just 1 minute and 27 seconds. Cummings also competed in the girls division, where she earned a bronze medal after finishing 2-2, with both wins coming by pinfall.

Kaden Decker capped off a strong Novice career by earning a silver medal in the 8U Novice 61-pound division. Decker battled through a tough bracket to finish 3-1 on the weekend, recording two pinfall victories along the way.

Rounding out the list of MGA podium finishers was Colton “Colt 45” Tecumseh, who earned a third-place finish in the 12U 64-pound division. Tecumseh fought through the wrestlebacks and finished 3-1, posting one pinfall and two major decisions to secure his spot on the podium.
