The last day to apply for voter registration to be eligible to vote in the Feb. 10 election is this Friday, Jan. 16.
According to Okmulgee County Election Board Secretary Ashley Carnes, the February election will include the Okmulgee City Council Municipal Election, along with Special School Bond Elections for Henryetta Public Schools and Twin Hills Public Schools. Sample ballots are available at the County Election Board office and at the OK Voter Portal.
According to Carnes, persons who are United States Citizens, residents of Oklahoma and at least 17 ½ years old are eligible to apply for voter registration. However, you must be at least 18 years old to vote.
Paper applications must be received by the County Election Board or postmarked no later than Jan. 16. Electronic applications must be received no later than midnight Jan. 16. Applications postmarked or time-stamped after Jan. 16 will be held and will be processed after the Feb. 10 election. Applications may also be submitted to any motor vehicle agency that is also an official voter registration agency by the submission deadline, Feb. 10.
Applicants will be notified in writing when their application has been processed. Approved voters will receive a Voter Identification Card in the mail. Some applicants may receive a letter explaining why their application was not approved. Carnes said those who do not receive a response within 15 days of submitting their application should contact the County Election Board office immediately.
The Okmulgee County Election Board reminds voters that applications must be approved by the County Election Board Secretary in order to vote.
Registered voters registered with an address within the Henryetta Public School District or Twin Hills Public School District are eligible to vote in the Special School Bond Election. Please note that having a child enrolled in that school district or living in the city limits does not automatically make you eligible to vote the school ballot.
Registered voters registered with an address within the city limits of Okmulgee are eligible to vote in the Municipal Election. Please note that owning a business that is within the city limits does not automatically make you eligible to vote the city ballot.
To check eligibility, find your polling place and view the sample ballots, visit the OK Voter Portal at okvoterportal. okelections.gov or visit the Oklahoma State Election Board website. According to Carnes, if the OK Voter Portal indicates that you have no sample ballots available, it means you are not eligible to vote in an upcoming election. We recommend checking the OK Voter Portal to confirm you are eligible to vote before heading to the polls.
Registered voters who have moved to Okmulgee County from another county or state must complete a New Voter Registration Application to be eligible to vote in Okmulgee County elections. If you have moved within the county and need to update your address, you may make changes online using the OK Voter Portal at oklahoma.gov/elections/ ovp or complete a Voter Registration Application.
Voter Registration Applications can be downloaded from the State Election Board website at oklahoma.gov/ elections. You may also complete a form at the County Election Board. Most post offices, tag agencies and public libraries have applications available upon request.
The County Election Board office is in the Okmulgee County Courthouse, located at 314 W. 7th Street, Room 102, in Okmulgee, and is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. For questions, please contact the Election Board at 918-756-2365 or OkmulgeeCounty@ elections. ok.gov.
