The Henryetta Lady Knights found themselves battling to extend their tournament stay on Thursday afternoon as they met the Checotah Lady Wildcats in a second-round consolation bracket matchup. For a Henryetta squad determined to rebound after an opening-round setback, the stage offered both urgency and opportunity. Checotah, equally intent on advancing, applied pressure early and withstood multiple Lady Knight surges to secure a 46-39 result and advance to the consolation championship.
The first half unfolded with matching pace and scoreboard rhythm, each side answering the other’s best stretches. Henryetta opened with energy behind forward Wynter Bevenue- Campbell and guard Kynlee Wynne, combining for early interior touches and transition looks. Checotah countered with perimeter efficiency and opportunistic scoring from wing Carly Dismuskes, whose early points helped stabilize the Wildcats in a back-and-forth first quarter that ended tied 11-11.
The second period mirrored the first as both teams found productive pockets. Henryetta’s backcourt of Zoe Boatright and Aubrey Taylor added timely perimeter scoring, while Bevenue- Campbell continued generating paint production and controlled possessions on the defensive end. Yet Checotah remained composed, spreading the floor and converting enough drives and kick-outs to match the Knights shot for shot. The halftime score sat level again at 23-23, positioning the final two quarters as the true separator.
The third quarter proved decisive. Checotah’s defense tightened, funneling Henryetta into tougher looks while turning rebounds into transition scoring. Dismuskes, Shyanne Madewell and Nakia Carr powered the Wildcats’ best offensive period, pushing Checotah ahead 34-30 entering the fourth. Henryetta, refusing to fade, made its most spirited push in the closing minutes behind Boatright and Wynne, with Bevenue-Campbell continuing to shoulder interior scoring responsibility. Maddie Rock added a key bucket in the stretch as the Knights worked to trim an eightpoint deficit to two possessions.
Checotah, however, managed the game with poise in the final two minutes and maintained its lead through consistent half-court execution. Carr and Kalieigh York added needed late scoring, and forward Daisy Prince provided balanced contributions across all four quarters to secure the Wildcats’ advancement, 46-39.
Henryetta featured five scorers in the contest, led by Bevenue-Campbell’s 12 points. Wynne followed with 11, Boatright tallied nine behind a strong fourth quarter push, Taylor contributed five, and Rock added two, rounding out the Knights’ production. Checotah’s scoring was paced by Dismuskes with 14, with Carr and York adding nine apiece, Madewell six, and Prince eight.
With the result, Henryetta moves to 5-7 on the season and will next meet Beggs in the seventh-place game of the consolation bracket. Checotah improves to 3-6 and advanced to face Metro Christian for the consolation championship.
