Senior Bobby Baker emerged as a steady presence throughout the first half, attacking the basket and creating opportunities both for himself and his teammates. His ability to score through traffic kept Beggs within reach as the Hornets attempted to separate.

Hilldale seized control in explosive fashion during the third quarter, turning a 41-41 deadlock into momentum firmly in their favor. The Hornets erupted on a 13-0 run, fueled by relentless defense and quick scoring, to open up a commanding 5441 lead. Beggs showed resilience late, mounting a comeback that cut the deficit but the decisive burst by Hilldale proved to be the tone that ultimately decided the game.

What followed was Beggs’ most impressive run of the night. The Demons erupted for 23 points in the final quarter, consistently finding quality looks and applying pressure with each possession. Baker led the charge, scoring 10 of his game-high 21 points in the fourth quarter alone. His leadership and confidence fueled a late rally that trimmed the margin to a single possession in the closing minute, forcing Hilldale to execute under pressure to secure the win.

Baker’s 21-point performance anchored a balanced scoring effort for Beggs. Baker Copeland and Mike Lewis each finished with 10 points, both reaching double figures through consistent production across multiple quarters. Copeland scored in every period, while Lewis provided early momentum with key baskets before halftime.

Rickey Smith added eight points, using his physical play to finish inside, while Brayden King also scored eight, including five in the fourth quarter that energized the Demons during their late push. Jordan Wesley contributed six points, AJ Estrada added three and Lindon Demery chipped in three late as Beggs continued to fight until the final buzzer.

Despite trailing for much of the second half, Beggs never allowed the game to get away, a testament to the team’s discipline and conditioning against a physically imposing opponent. Head coach Koby Love’s squad showed composure and confidence in a challenging road environment, particularly in their ability to respond after falling behind.

Both Hilldale and Beggs sit at 3-6. The Demons are participating in the Henryetta Invitational this week and were scheduled to take on a tough Okemah opponent Thursday. See upcoming editions of the Okmulgee Times and Henryetta Free-Lance for updates.
