Demons push 4A Hilldale to final buzzer
By TIFFANY BELL SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

The Beggs Demons made a strong statement Monday night, stepping into a hostile road environment and going toe-to-toe with a larger 4A Hilldale Hornets squad in a dramatic regular- season matchup. Beggs led early and stayed within striking distance throughout, but a late Hilldale surge proved just enough as the Demons fell 7570 in a game that remained tense until the final moments.

Both teams entered the contest with similar records, though the classification difference and physicality of Hilldale added another layer of challenge for Beggs. The Demons wasted no time showing they belonged, jumping out to an 18-14 lead in the opening quarter. Beggs moved the ball well offensively and converted early opportunities, setting a confident tone that carried through much of the night.

Hilldale responded in the second quarter, leaning on its size and depth to slowly swing momentum. The Hornets outscored Beggs 20-14 in the period to take a 34-32 lead into halftime. While Beggs trailed at the break, the Demons continued to answer every push with timely scoring, refusing to let the game programs.

The tone of the game shifted in the second quarter, as Hilldale found its rhythm offensively. The Lady Hornets poured in 25 points in the period, using ball movement and transition scoring to stretch the lead. Beggs continued to battle, adding 10 points in the quarter, but went into halftime trailing 29-15. While the scoreboard favored Hilldale, Beggs’ willingness to attack and stay aggressive stood out against a team known for its physicality.

Coming out of the locker room, the Lady Demons responded with one of their strongest stretches of the night. Beggs matched Hilldale point for point in the third quarter, with both teams scoring 13. Senior standout, Kamya Stallings led the charge, attacking the lane and finishing through contact while also stepping into open looks when the defense sagged. Her energy sparked the Beggs offense and kept the Lady Demons within striking distance heading into the final period.

Hilldale’s experience ultimately showed in the fourth quarter, as the Hornets closed the game with 24 points. Beggs continued to compete until the final buzzer, adding nine points of their own and refusing to let the game’s pace overwhelm them. While the final margin favored Hilldale, the Lady Demons gained valuable minutes and confidence against a quality opponent.

Stallings finished with a game-high 19 points for Beggs, accounting for more than half of the team’s scoring and continuing to establish herself as a reliable offensive leader. Emmabreah Triplett contributed seven points, providing a steady presence and timely scoring, particularly in the second and third quarters. Padon Stallings added two points, while Rylan Wesley chipped in three points late as Beggs continued to attack until the end.

Head coach Vaughn Blankenship’s squad showed resilience throughout the contest, a trait that has defined this young season. Facing a tough 4A team on the road, the Lady Demons demonstrated growth, especially defensively in the opening quarter and offensively during their third-quarter response.

With the loss, Beggs moves to 3-6 on the season but will have little time to dwell on the outcome. The Lady Demons will remain on the road as they head to the Henryetta Tournament this week, where they were set to face McLoud Thursday morning. The tournament provides another opportunity for Beggs to build chemistry, sharpen execution and continue preparing for the heart of its schedule with optimism and competitive resolve.
