Preston student shines on stage in ‘A Christmas Carol’

A Preston Middle School student is gaining well-deserved recognition for her growing talent and passion for the performing arts.

Zoey Hudgins McCool, a sixth grader at Preston Middle School, recently took the stage at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center (TPAC) as part of this year’s production of “A Christmas Carol.” Her appearance in the beloved holiday classic marks another exciting milestone in a young acting career that began several years ago.

Zoey’s first acting role came in 2021 when she was cast as Sarah Cratchit in American Theatre Company’s production of “A Christmas Carol.” She reprised that role in 2022, building confidence and experience with each performance. Since then, she has appeared in several productions, continuing to grow as a performer.

While she has enjoyed every role she has taken on, Zoey says her favorite performance to date was portraying Nibs, one of the Lost Boys, in “Peter Pan.” The role allowed her to explore a fun, energetic character and further fueled her love for the stage.

Outside of acting, Zoey stays busy honing her creative talents. She takes voice lessons, enjoys reading and spends time drawing, all of which help strengthen her artistic expression both on and off the stage.

Zoey also expressed gratitude to Abbie De Vera, who introduced her to film and helped her land her first film role, opening the door to yet another creative avenue. She credits the encouragement of family, friends and mentors for inspiring her to continue pursuing what she loves.
