May 24, 1940 – December 1, 2025
On May 24, 1940, a blessing named Wanda was born in Okmulgee to Herbert McKittrick and Ollie Grace (Talton) McKittrick. She was their only child. Wanda often spoke of how protective her grandfather, Rufus McKittrick, was of her as she grew up in Okmulgee.
In the mid 1950s Wanda lived with her aunt, Juanita Hamilton and attended Freemont High School in Los Angeles. She returned to Okmulgee for her senior year and graduated from historic Dunbar High School with the Class of 1958.
Wanda married Lawrence “Kitty” Williams on December 28, 1959, in Sapulpa. From this union, two children were born: Donna and Russell. She worked at Montgomery Wards, starting as a sales clerk and becoming a department manager. When Wards closed, she obtained training as a Physical Therapy Assistant and worked at George Nigh Rehabilitation Institute until her retirement, where she received many honors.
Wanda was an active member of Church of Christ and enjoyed teaching Sunday School. Some of the current leaders of the church remember her as their last Sunday School teacher. She volunteered with the Democrat Party and was an active member of the Red Hat Society in Okmulgee, and enjoyed their camaraderie and charitable efforts, until she moved to Alaska. Wanda had a talent for sketching and writing poems, always custom made for each individual. She may have written a poem for you! She enjoyed retirement in Okmulgee and spent quality time with co-worker/ friend/casino sister, Mary Fayne Parks traveling to all casinos within driving distance and occasionally getting lost!
She spent the last eight years living with her daughter, Donna, and son-in-law in Anchorage, Ala. Wanda was predeceased by her parents and her son Russell Williams in 2015.
Mrs. Wanda Ann Williams, “after Four-score and Five Years” peacefully transitioned to Eternal Rest on Monday, December 1, 2025, in Tulsa.
She leaves to cherish memories of her life her daughter Donna (and Bart) McRorie, of Anchorage, Ala.; stepdaughter Carol Davis of Los Angeles; four grandchildren; Donald Barnett, Jr. (Stephanie) of LaVerne, Calif.; Donnica Barnett (Corey), of Okmulgee, Blake Williams of Broken Arrow, and LaShandra Keel of Tulsa; and six great-grandchildren; along with her extended family, many cousins, and friends who will mourn her.
