Tigers open season with strong win over Aspire

The Wilson Tigers launched their 2025-26 basketball season in impressive fashion Tuesday night, powering past the Aspire Trailblazers 64-44 behind balanced scoring and relentless defensive pressure, under the leadership of Head Coach Grant Proctor.

The Tigers played with confidence from the opening tip, establishing a 19-13 first-quarter lead before stretching the margin to 36-25 at halftime. Aspire battled back in the third, briefly slowing Wilson’s momentum, but the Tigers closed the door with a decisive 15-10 fourth quarter to secure the victory.

— Balanced scoring defines Wilson’s win Coach Proctor’s Tigers showcased depth across the lineup, with multiple players contributing on both ends of the court. Top scorers for Wilson included: • Tepoyv Williams (3) – 13 points Williams was dynamic in transition and hit several key shots to maintain Wilson’s early momentum.

• Talan Dobson (13) – 10 points – Dobson provided steady interior scoring and tough finishes at the rim.

• CJ Huffman (23) – 10 points – The freshman made an immediate impact in his varsity debut with high-energy play and timely baskets.

• Alec Ganote (4) – 6 points – Ganote’s hustle and ball movement fueled several scoring runs.

• Rylan Hicks Jr. (5) – 6 points – Hicks knocked down a pair of big shots as Aspire narrowed the lead in the second half.

• Aiden Barnard (2) – 4 points

• Daniel Buchanan (0) – 3 points

• Ke’shon Shelburn (1) – 3 points

• Izzayah Bear (20) – 2 points

• Ethan Carney (22) – 2 points

• Zechariah Tecumseh (11) – 2 points

• Boston West (10) – 2 points — Aspire trio challenges Tigers

The Trailblazers were powered by three strong offensive threats:

• Josh Tilley (3) – 17 points

• Draven Baker (0) – 11 points

• Tevki Martin (10) – 11 points With their first win in the books, the Tigers will turn their focus to upcoming non-conference play tonight at home.
