Obituaries
December 3, 2025
Cheryl Ann Whomble

Cheryl Ann (Cathron) Whomble, lifelong Okmulgee resident, went to be with the Lord on Friday, November 28, 2025, at 75 years of age. She was at St. Francis hospital in Tulsa, surrounded by her loving family. She was born May 9, 1950, in Okmulgee to the late Elmer and Olive Cathron. Cheryl graduated from Okmulgee High School in 1968 and began her education at Northeastern State University. She married Doug Whomble on January 20, 1970, in Okmulgee. He passed away on January 12, 1990.

Cheryl was an avid sports fan – especially her beloved OU Sooners football team and the OKC Thunder. She would often be found watching cooking shows as well as some of her favorite reality TV shows like Dancing with the Stars and the Amazing Race – her secret guilty pleasures. She enjoyed spending time in her backyard and flower gardening. Cheryl was an animal lover, especially her dogs Teddy and Winston. More than anything, she loved being with her family.

Cheryl’s career included being attorney Kenneth Butler’s personal legal secretary, owning and operating the Old Boathouse Marina at Okmulgee Lake with her husband Doug, being a social worker at the Oklahoma Department of Human Services, working at Workforce Oklahoma and as a cashier at First National Bank. She retired to become a dedicated caregiver to her mother. While in her 50’s, Cheryl returned to NSU to complete her bachelors degree in social work. She grew up attending First Assembly of God Church with her family, and later was a member of Episcopal Church of the Redeemer.

Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister-in-law, Sue Whomble Burchfield and mother-inlaw, Viva Whomble Edwards.

Survivors include her daughter, Shannon Whomble Williams and husband Mark; her companion, Greg Adolph; nephew, Hansen Dirani and wife Kalei and their son Dominic; sister, Carol Mattingly and husband Buzz; nephew, Paul David, nephew, Dirk Moore and his children, May 9, 1950 – November 28, 2025

Dylan Moore and Chelsea Martin and husband Kyle and their daughter Rose, nephew Shawn Moore and his daughters Shawnee Moore and Lindsay Kline and husband Josh and their children Zeplin and Ellowyn; niece Ashlee Elersic and husband Jason and their children, Nathan, Alyssa and Morgan Elersic; brother-in-law, Jack Burchfield, brother- in-law and sister-inlaw, Tom and Frankie Byford, nephew, Eric Byford and his wife Gretchen and numerous extended loving family members.

Cheryl will be remembered for her kindness and compassion towards others. She was a beautiful, down-to-earth person. Cheryl had a quiet, humble personality never seeking attention or the spotlight. She had a great sense of humor and was a lot of fun to be around. She was a good listener, accepting of people and always good with advice. Simply said, Cheryl was just an all-around “cool person” that will be deeply missed.

Viewing and visitation will begin at 12 p.m. Saturday, December 6, 2025, at McClendon- Winters Funeral Home Chapel, followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. Rev. Johnny Wagner, Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, will officiate. Interment will follow at Okmulgee Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Mark Williams, Greg Adolph, Hansen Dirani, Eric Byford, Dirk Moore, Shawn Moore and Zach Torbett. Honorary casket bearers will be Tom Byford, Ashlee Elersic, Christy Parker, Doug Hamilton, Craig Molet, Ott Holleman, Shane Bevan and JR Gleason.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mc-Clendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee. Memories, condolences, photos and videos may be shared with the family on Cheryl’s Tribute Page at www.mcclendon- winters.com.
