Dragons Torch Eagles Again:
By TIFFANY BELL SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

DEWAR — If Waurika arrived in Dewar believing its playoff win last week had sparked new life, the Dragons wasted no time reminding the Eagles who still rules Class B-1. Behind an explosive offense, a suffocating defense, and a tone-setting 99-yard lightning strike on their first snap, defending state champion Dewar rolled to a 48–0 victory Friday night, ending the game at halftime via the 8-man mercy rule.

The rematch from Week 4 — a 46–0 Dewar win — looked even more lopsided the second time around.

Waurika opened the game with its best moment of the night: an 11-yard drive and a punt that pinned Dewar inside its own 1-yard line. But the celebration lasted all of a few seconds.

On the Dragons’ first offensive play, quarterback Peyton Kilhoffer fired a wide pass toward the home sideline to Joseph Moore, who shook two Eagle defenders “like a hot pair of dice” and streaked 99 yards for a touchdown. Kilhoffer added the two-point run, and the rout was on.

After Waurika went three-and-out, Dewar methodically marched 80 yards in 12 plays, capped by a 4-yard touchdown run from Braelin Lewis, who powered his way to a 130-yard, two-touchdown performance on just nine carries. The Dragons led 16–0 and never looked back.

Waurika briefly slowed the pace with a 13-play drive, but Dewar’s defense — swarming, physical, and disciplined — slammed the door. From there, the Dragons’ offense turned the night into a track meet. Kilhoffer delivered a 25-yard touchdown strike to Tanner Wilson, then Lewis broke loose for a 38-yard scoring run, and Kilhoffer hit JoJo Waters on back-to-back touchdown passes from 15 and 55 yards out.

Kilhoffer finished the night 7-of-9 passing for 238 yards and three touchdowns, adding 11 rushing yards. Waters hauled in four catches for 100 yards and two scores, while Wilson added 39 receiving yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, Dewar smothered the Eagles at every level. Moore added seven rushing yards and was a standout on defense, while Kade Birdtail controlled the line from the nose spot.

“We played really well, and our plan was to get off to a fast start and set the tone early,” said Dewar head coach Matt Ross. “We executed in all phases. Peyton was sharp both running and throwing the ball, and he did a great job getting it to our playmakers. Defensively, it was a total team effort — Joseph and Kade really stood out.”

With the win, Dewar advances to the Class B-1 semifinals to face Hollis, champions of District 2.

“Hollis is a very good football team,” Ross said. “We’ll have to play well to beat them. They’re run-oriented with a dangerous play-action game, and their quarterback is one of the best we’ve seen all year. He keeps plays alive and makes things happen. We have to be disciplined, fit right, and tackle well.”

The Dragons (11–2) now find themselves one win away from returning to the state championship game — and if Friday’s domination is any indication, they’re rounding into championship form at just the right time.
