Can we help Lacey find a home for the holidays?

Can we help Lacey find a home for the holidays?

Often, an animal comes through the Okmulgee County (OKCO) Humane Society whose personality is so bright, so endearing and so completely charming that we find ourselves wondering why on earth they’re still waiting for a family. Lacey is one of those dogs.

If you’ve seen her photo, you already know exactly who we’re talking about. That sweet Shepherd mix with the soulful eyes and the enormous, fennec-foxlike ears? That’s Lacey – the one-and-a-half-year-old foxy lady who has captured every volunteer’s heart since the day she arrived in May. Yes, May. This gentle girl has watched numerous adoptable pets find a home while she continues to wait, hoping that soon it will finally be her turn.

Lacey is the kind of dog who makes an impression immediately. She’s soft, affectionate, and eager to please. She bonds quickly with anyone who shows her kindness, and once she trusts you, she’s the type of companion who stays loyally by your side. With her, it’s all about connection – leaning in for cuddles, curling up next to kids, or matching your energy whether that means playtime or a quiet night on the couch. In addition to her sweet temperament, Lacey brings a lot to the table: she is fully vetted, spayed and up-to-date on all her vaccines. Even better, she’s house-trained – always a bonus for adopters hoping to skip the puppy-training phase and enjoy a companion who already understands the basics of home life. In addition to being great with kids, Lacey also does well with other dogs and cats, making her a versatile fit for many households. There is one adoption note worth mentioning: Lacey is not a match for homes with livestock. Beyond that, she blends beautifully with almost everyone and everything she meets. She’s social, friendly and genuinely enjoys the company of both people and animals. Her confidence grows when she’s included, and she thrives on being part of a family’s daily rhythm.

With the holidays approaching, the OKCO team is hoping that Lacey’s wait will finally come to an end. Every animal deserves a warm home, a soft bed, and people to love during the festive season and Lacey is no exception. She has spent the better part of the year dreaming of that moment. She’s not the only one. Many of Lacey’s fellow adoptable friends – dogs and cats of all ages, sizes, and personalities – are also hoping this holiday season brings them a second chance. While the year is winding down, their hopes are not. Every adoption opens space for another animal in need, and every family who chooses to adopt truly changes a life.

Still, it’s Lacey’s story we return to again and again. It’s impossible to overlook how much she has given us: her trust, her playful spirit, her quiet loyalty, her endless sweetness. And she has given all of this without yet receiving the one thing she wants most – a permanent place to call home.

If you’ve been thinking about adopting, consider meeting Lacey. It doesn’t take long to understand why we’ve all become such devoted fans of hers.

Lacey is ready. Ready for a family. Ready for a routine. Ready for the holidays, and for every season after that. She has waited long enough, and we believe her forever home is out there – it just hasn’t found her yet. To meet Lacey or any of our adoptable pets, visit okcohumane.org/adopt to submit an application and schedule a meet and greet. Your new best friend may be just one visit away.
