Michael “Mike” Lee Rice, 67, of Beggs, passed away on November 12, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. A devoted husband, proud father and beloved “Mr. Mike” to his grandson. Mike lived a life marked by service, grit and an unwavering ability to see the good in everyone. He had a special unconditional love for the people that meant the most to him.
Mike was born on May 21, 1958, in Okmulgee to Carl Nolen Rice and Ina “Tiny” (Wilson) Rice of Mounds. He graduated from Beggs High School in 1976. Mike spent his entire life in the rodeo community. Many of those years being an accomplished bull rider and running Rice Rodeo Company with his dad. In 1994, Mike joined the Okmulgee Fire Department, where he faithfully served his community for 28 years before retiring as Fire Captain in 2022.
A true cowboy at heart, Mike cherished time spent on his ranch, tending his cattle and enjoying the quiet honest work of the land. He found his greatest joy in his family, and anyone who knew him understood just how much he loved them. Nothing could light up his day quite like one of Sandra’s home cooked steaks followed by a family-friendly fishing competition. The rules were simple. You had to catch the first, the biggest or the most.
Mike is survived by May 21, 1958 – November 12, 2025
his loving wife Sandra L. Rice; daughter Cassy L. Rice, son Cody L. Herman and wife Ali Herman; and grandson Silas Joe “SJ.” He is also survived by many extended family members, lifelong friends, and brothers from the fire service who held a special place in his heart.
Mike will be remembered for his kindness, his loyalty, and his steady willingness to lend a hand. His legacy lives on in the family he adored and the community he proudly served.
