Henryetta, Morris cheer squads headed to State Nov. 15
By Patrick Ford Editor

The spirit and determination of Okmulgee County cheerleaders were on full display last weekend as teams from Henryetta, Morris, Beggs and Wilson competed in the 2025 OSSAA Game Day Regional Championships, earning strong placements and state qualifications for both Henryetta and Morris.

At the Class 3A Regional competition, both Henryetta High School and Morris High School earned qualifying scores, advancing to the OSSAA Game Day State Championship, which will be held Saturday, Nov. 15, at Union High School in Tulsa.

Henryetta posted a combined score of 408.0 points, placing among the top half of the 3A field. Their performance showcased sharp execution in the Fight Song, Crowd Leading and Band Chant categories, scoring 145, 151, and 112 respectively. Morris followed closely with a 394.4 total, demonstrating strong crowd leadership (143.8) and synchronization throughout their routine.

Both teams will now represent Okmulgee County at the state level this weekend, performing during the late morning session. Henryetta’s performance is scheduled for 12:20 p.m., while Morris will take the floor at 11:45 a.m. according to the OSSAA State schedule.

The 3A regional featured some of the state’s toughest cheer programs, with Holland Hall, Washington and Lincoln Christian claiming the top three overall scores – 437.0, 436.2, and 429.8 points, respectively. Henryetta ranked sixth overall, while Morris finished just outside the top ten but well above the state-qualifying threshold.

Beggs High School, also competing in Class 3A, delivered an energetic performance that earned a 375.2 total, highlighted by their 150.6 crowd-leading segment. Although the score placed just below the state cutoff, the Golden Demon squad represented the county with pride and enthusiasm.

— Wilson competes in Class 2A In Class 2A, the Wilson Tigers cheer team performed at regionals alongside 40 other small-school programs across Oklahoma. Wilson scored 343.2 total points, with balanced marks of 104.6 (Fight Song), 134.8 (Crowd Leading) and 103.8 (Band Chant). The Tigers showed steady progress and spirit throughout the event, building valuable experience as they continue developing their competitive cheer program.

The 2A competition saw Luther, Crescent and Arkoma taking the top three spots overall, each finishing within a few points of one another at 433.6, 431.8 and 429.8, respectively.

— Ready for State

Both Henryetta and Morris will compete at the OSSAA Game Day State Championships at Union High School, with performances scheduled between 11:45 a.m. and 12:20 p.m. in the Class 3A division. The top six teams from preliminaries will advance to the finals round later that afternoon, where state champions will be crowned.

The state schedule will feature teams from across Oklahoma, including Lexington, Vian, Okemah, Lindsay, Holland Hall, Washington, Valliant, Rejoice Christian, Lincoln Christian, Stroud, Silo, Roland and Westville competing in 3A. The event begins at 11 a.m. and will run through the early afternoon, concluding with finals at 1:20-1:45 p.m.

Congratulations to Henryetta, Morris, Beggs and Wilson for proudly representing Okmulgee County at regionals – and best of luck to our state-bound squads this weekend!
