October 22, 1956 – November 4, 2025
Johnny Elmo McAlister, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away on November 4, 2025, at the age of 69. Born on October 22, 1956, in Lawton, Johnny spent most of his life in Okmulgee, the community he proudly called home for decades.
Johnny attended OSUIT in Okmulgee, the town where fate led him to meet the love of his life, Deanna. The two were wed on June 6, 1981, beginning a beautiful journey together filled with love, laughter and family. Though Deanna passed after 26 years of marriage, her memory remained ever- present in Johnny’s heart and home.
A man of simple joys and deep devotion, Johnny found his greatest happiness surrounded by family. Many of his loved ones lived right in his neighborhood, creating a close-knit circle that shared countless meals, laughter and memories. He loved the outdoors – fishing, camping and spending time on Okmulgee’s lakes were among his favorite pastimes. His family will forever cherish memories of him jug lining for catfish and gathering everyone together for big fish fries and backyard BBQs.
For decades, Johnny was a familiar face in Okmulgee’s grocery stores, where his hard work, reliability and friendly nature made him a true fixture of the community. After many years of dedicated service, he retired in 2023 – a well-earned rest for a life marked by integrity and care.
Johnny is survived by his mother, Regina McAlister; his brother, Gary McAlister; his son, John David McAlister, and granddaughter Elizabeth McAlister; his daughter, Amber Richardson, and granddaughter Izabel Richardson; his daughter, Rebecca Haney, and husband Michael, along with grandsons Wyatt and Landon Haney; his sister-in-law Jamie Parker and husband Darin; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Deanna McAlister, his father John B. McAlister and his mother-inlaw Dorothy Cottrel.
Johnny’s legacy of love, laughter and togetherness will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him. His family takes comfort in knowing he is reunited with Deanna, sharing stories and smiles once more.
