Rotary Club brings Halloween spirit with costume contest

The Rotary Club of Okmulgee brought fun and community spirit to downtown Friday night as part of this year’s Scare on the Square celebration, hosting a lively costume contest in Rotary Pocket Park. The event invited families, children and even a few four-legged friends to show off their creativity while enjoying Halloween festivities on the historic square.

Rotarians on hand for the event included Sarah Rhodes, Ricki Ramsey, Glenda and Paul Fowler, Mike Kennedy, Darryl Railey, Diana Burton, Muriel Siegenthaler, Madelyn Amador, Andrew Harlan, Maggie Amador, Kaiden Nichols, Chynne Miller and Sarah Amador. Together, the group welcomed doz- ens of participants and helped judge a wide range of imaginative costumes, from classic witches and superheroes to clever homemade designs.

Generous local sponsors provided prizes for winners in multiple age categories. Rotary extends its sincere thanks to: Sweet Magnolia, Laci’s Nutrition Shoppe, Vets 4 Pets, VFW Post 539, American Legion, Harlan Ford, Kirby’s Cafe, Mainstreet Flowers & Wear, Purple Fox, Mabrey Bank, Patrons Bank, Shoney’s, El Tapatio and Serenity Designs.

“Our Rotary Club loves any opportunity to be hands-on in the community,” Rotary President Sarah Amador said. “Events like this let us connect with families, celebrate local business sponsors, and bring more life to downtown Okmulgee, that’s what service above self looks like in action.”

The Rotary Club of Okmulgee meets twice a month and welcomes guests who want to learn more about community service projects, youth programs and upcoming events such as holiday socials and the Pocket Park improvements. For more information, visit the Rotary Club of Okmulgee Facebook page or stop by a meeting at the Mabrey Bank Meeting Room (111 E. 6th Street) the second Thursday of every month at noon and the fourth Thursday of every month at 6 p.m.
