The Beggs community will have two opportunities to give back and promote safety this morning, Nov. 5, as a Food Drive and a Medication & Sharps Take-Back Event is planned from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The food drive will take place at the Beggs Housing Authority, encouraging residents to drop off canned and non-perishable food items to help local families in need. The effort is happening in conjunction with the medication and sharps disposal event, but donations are welcome even from those who don’t have medication or sharps to turn in.
Organizers are partnering with the Oklahoma State University Department of Wellness and the Okmulgee County Consortium to make the event a success. The food drive provides a simple and effective way for the community to support one another as the holiday season approaches.
Simultaneously, residents can safely dispose of unused or expired medications and medical sharps during the Medication & Sharps Take-Back Event at the same location, 109 N. Choctaw Street in Beggs. Drop-off will be located outside the main office, with clear signage to guide participants through the process.
This program ensures safe, anonymous disposal of potentially dangerous materials, preventing misuse and protecting the environment.
The event is made possible through a partnership between several agencies, including the OSU Department of Wellness, Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Control, Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality, Oklahoma Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, the Okmulgee County Consortium and local law enforcement.
Whether donating food or safely disposing of medications, residents are encouraged to take part between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Beggs Housing Authority.
