Okmulgee Public Schools has issued an important warning to the community regarding individuals or groups who may be soliciting donations for high school building repairs. Superintendent LuVona Copeland clarified in an official statement that the district is not accepting or raising any funds for that purpose and urged residents to be cautious of potential scams.
“It has come to our at- tention that there may be individuals or groups soliciting donations for repairs or restoration of the high school building that currently has structural issues,” Copeland stated. “Please be advised that the school district is not accepting donations or raising money for this purpose.”
The district’s high school building has faced ongoing structural concerns that have required evaluation by engineers and administrative staff. Copeland emphasized that while the district is addressing those issues, no outside fundraising efforts are authorized.
“We want to ensure our community members are not misled or taken advantage of,” she said. “Please be cautious about giving money to anyone claiming to represent the district for building repairs.”
According to Copeland, the district is currently working with professionals to determine the safest and most effective way to move forward.
“The district is currently working through the appropriate steps to determine the best path forward for the high school building,” she noted. “We will continue to keep you informed as official decisions are made.”
The superintendent expressed appreciation for the community’s continued support and urged residents to verify any fundraising claims before contributing money to ensure legitimacy.
“Thank you for your continued support of our schools and students,” Copeland concluded.
