Dripping Springs Rendezvous returns Oct. 31 – Nov. 9
By Patrick Ford Editor

The rich traditions of early Oklahoma frontier life will come alive once again this fall when the Oklahoma Territory Rendezvous Association (OTRA) hosts its annual Dripping Springs Rendezvous, scheduled for Oct. 31 through Nov. 9, at the Dripping Springs Park near Okmulgee. Participants and visitors alike are transported back to a time when traders, trappers and travelers gathered at seasonal “rendezvous” to share goods, stories, and skills essential to frontier life.

Public and tourist days, to allow the community to get a first-hand look, will be Nov. 6-8 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Guests can expect to see traditional tin tipis, canvas tents, and primitive camps scattered through the wooded landscape, as well as demonstrations of hawking, shooting, archery and other frontier pastimes. A quilt raffle, live music, games and a Lady’s Tea add to the sense of community and recreation that defines the rendezvous.

Although the event encourages primitive living, organizers ensure participants have access to basic comforts. Wood and water will be available on-site, with showers conveniently located nearby. As always, attendees are encouraged to prepare for the el-FILE ements and embrace the rugged spirit of the frontier.

Throughout the weeklong rendezvous, there will be no shortage of things to see and do:

• Hawk and shooting competitions for black powder and tomahawk enthusiasts

• Archery contests to test accuracy and skill

• Quilt Raffle featuring handcrafted items

• Music & Lady’s Tea, bringing social warmth to the wilderness

• Games, cards and crafts reminiscent of 1800s frontier entertainment This blend of competition, craftsmanship, and fellowship has made the OTRA Dripping Springs Rendezvous one of the most anticipated living-history events in eastern Oklahoma.

Those with questions or who need registration confirmations may email robin.teeter@icloud.com.
