Mojo Grappling Academy kicks off Folkstyle season at Oklahoma Open

The Mojo Grappling Academy (MGA) launched its Folkstyle wrestling season in dominant fashion on Oct. 18, traveling to Midwest City to compete in the Oklahoma Open one of the state’s premier early-season tournaments. The Okmulgee County- based club brought 19 athletes to the mats, with an impressive 13 wrestlers earning medals and several claiming hardware in multiple divisions.

-Top-10 Team Finish Against State Powerhouses The Oklahoma Open featured more than 75 teams statewide, including powerhouse programs from Tulsa and Oklahoma City. Despite being one of the smaller squads, MGA’s energy and skill shined through in the opening session – which featured girls divisions along with the 6U and 15U Open categories.

Fueled by a fiery start, Mojo placed 6th overall in team points, proving that the academy’s young grapplers could hang with some of Oklahoma’s best. Four MGA wrestlers dominated their way to first-place finishes, each pinning every opponent they faced en route to the top of the podium.

• Maesa Brigge (6U Girls 37 lb) – 2 pins in 1:14 total time

• Rikki Olsen (8U Girls 54 lb) – 3 pins in 3:22

• Kaden Decker (8U Novice 61 lb) 3 pins in 2:47

• Adria Brigge (12U 70 lb) – 2 pins in 1:16 The quartet’s flawless performances anchored a remarkable team showing, supported by six additional medalists who contributed key points toward Mojo’s top-10 finish.

– Session Two Success & Continued Momentum The second session of the day featured the 8U-12U and high school boys divisions, where seven MGA athletes took the mats. Although no firstplace finishes came from this group, five still earned medals and helped the team secure 16th place among dozens of squads – an impressive feat considering their smaller numbers.

That next opportunity comes close to home – the Duel for the Sword tournament in Henryetta, set for two weeks from now. It will give local fans and supporters a chance to witness the MGA athletes in action.

-Community Support & Gratitude The academy expressed deep appreciation to its sponsors for helping make the trip and season possible, including Doty Construction, Loafing Acres, BOOST Athletics Foundation, Susan Graham and Central Perk Coffee Shop.
