The Okmulgee County Family Resource Center hosted its annual Hope Luncheon on Oct. 16 at First Baptist Church in Okmulgee, bringing together citizens, advocates and agency representatives united in the mission to prevent abuse and support survivors.
The luncheon was held in observance of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, recognized nationwide throughout October. The event served not only as a time of reflection and awareness but also as a heartfelt show of appreciation for the many professionals and volunteers who dedicate themselves daily to helping victims and families in crisis.
Executive Director Keyna Richardson welcomed guests and gave special thanks to all in the ongoing work in providing safety, education and advocacy for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault throughout Okmulgee County.
Board President Lou Ann Robinson and advocates Davina Lawrence, Angela Moser and Johanna Hall were thanked for their efforts help strengthen prevention programs and support services across the county.
Guests enjoyed a barbecue luncheon featuring pulled pork, beans, potato salad and cake.
A highlight of the afternoon was the reading of a special Domestic Violence Awareness Month proclamation by Councilman and Rev. Marcus Jeffrey, reaffirming the city’s ongoing commitment to raising awareness and promoting safety for all residents.
As Domestic Violence Awareness Month draws attention nationwide, the Hope Luncheon reminded everyone in attendance that change begins at home – and in communities like Okmulgee County, where compassion and cooperation continue to shine through even the most difficult challenges.
