Prairie Bell OHCE plans annual Morris Craft Show

The 43rd Annual Morris Craft Show, sponsored by Prairie Bell OHCE, is an Okmulgee County staple always held just before the Thanksgiving holiday. This year’s date is Saturday, Nov. 22.

The craft show has historically been held in Morris at the high school, but circumstances warranted a move to the Okmulgee County Fairgrounds in Okmulgee for 2025. Vendors from surrounding communities will set up booths to sell their goods for holiday shopping.

The Methodist Church Women of Morris will continue their tradition of an onsite concession stand, serving delicious food with their proceeds going to benefit their mission projects. This year, the Okmulgee County Sharks Special Olympics athletes will be serving up a savory breakfast for shoppers and vendors. And don’t miss the 4-H booth, where you can pick up your favorite baked goodies.

— History of Prairie Bell

Prairie Bell was organized in 1947, and is one of many Oklahoma Home and Community Education clubs. Initially, the club provided refreshments for cattle sales and helped families in need within their local community. The Morris Craft Show started to raise money for the FFA and 4-H youth. Prairie Bell also provided the upkeep of the community cemetery and the Prairie Bell schoolhouse where they often met and adopted the name of the club.

Fast forward to 2025, amidst the hustle and bustle of modern life, Prairie Bell is still helping with the county fair and participating in programs like providing stuffed bears for first responders to have in their vehicles when they help children in trauma, providing scholarships, supporting 4-H programs, sewing dresses for missions and supporting the Okmulgee County Sharks, to name a few.

Prairie Bell members also make a quilt every year that is shown at the county fair. A raffle is held for this quilt. Tickets are on sale for just $1 each or six for $5, and the drawing for the winner will be announced at the end of the craft show on Nov. 22. Raffle proceeds will be awarded to the Sharks Special Olympics team.
