Knights look to rebound after tough loss to Vian

The Henryetta Knights hit the road last Friday and battled a powerful Vian Wolverines squad, ultimately falling 48-14 in a game defined by Vian’s explosive ground attack and Henryetta’s flashes of resilience. Despite the setback, the Knights showed offensive promise behind quarterback Nakona Johnson and running back Joseph Cummings, and now turn their attention to Friday’s home matchup against the Antlers Bearcats at Cameron Field.

Vian wasted no time asserting itself in the first quarter, scoring twice – first on a 17-yard run by Cash Trammel, followed by a 35-yard touchdown pass from Trammel to Masyn Wright – to take a 14-0 lead. The Wolverines extended their advantage in the second quarter with another flurry of scoring: a 6-yard touchdown run by Draighton Fletcher, a 59-yard breakaway by Wright, and a 34-yard pass from Trammel to Fletcher, capping a dominant half with Vian up 357.

Henryetta broke through late in the second quarter when Joseph Cummings powered in from 21 yards out, cutting the deficit to 21-7 after Blaze Hill’s extra point. The Knights moved the ball well through the air and on the ground in spurts but struggled to sustain drives against the Wolverines’ defense.

The third quarter saw Vian continue to roll with Fletcher’s third touchdown of the night, a 22-yard run to extend the lead to 41-7. Henryetta responded in the fourth when Nakona Johnson connected with Gavin Williams for a 23-yard touchdown, capping a confident drive to bring the Knights’ total to 14 points. Williams was Henryetta’s most effective receiver on the night, averaging 13 yards per catch.

Vian sealed the victory late in the game with a 12-yard scoring run from Amos Wright.

• Total Offense: 158 yards on 37 plays (4.3 yards per play)

• Rushing: 101 yards on 26 attempts (3.9 average)

• Passing: 57 yards, 8-of-11 (73%) completion rate Quarterback Nakona Johnson was efficient, completing 8 of 11 passes for 57 yards and a touchdown, while also rushing seven times for 41 yards and showing toughness under pressure.

Running back Joseph Cummings carried six times for 36 yards, including his 21-yard scoring run.

Will Perez added nine carries for 14 yards, with Blake Wind and Blazin Davis contributing in the backfield as well.

In the air, Gavin Williams led all receivers with two catches for 26 yards and a touchdown, while Nathan Nail added 10 yards on two receptions. Haiden Kaler, Tyson Wieland, and Blazin Davis each had one catch.

Blaze Hill handled kicking duties, averaging 32.3 yards on four punts and converting both PATs. He also handled three kickoffs for an average of 27.7 yards, with a long of 36.

Defensively, Jaylin Lindsey led Henryetta with five total tackles, followed by Haiden Kaler and Joseph Cummings, each with 3.5. Landon Jones, Blazin Davis, and Tyson Wieland contributed key stops as the Knights fought to slow Vian’s high-powered offense, which rolled up 414 total yards (315 rushing, 99 passing).

The Wolverines showcased their offensive balance, led by Masyn Wright, who rushed eight times for 126 yards and a touchdown, and added a 35yard touchdown reception. Draighton Fletcher posted two rushing TDs and one receiving, finishing with 132 combined yards. Quarterback Cash Trammel completed 5 of 7 passes for 93 yards and two touchdowns, while adding a rushing score of his own. Vian averaged an impressive 11.5 yards per play.

With the loss, Henryetta drops to 4-3 on the season but remains optimistic heading into a pivotal home game against Antlers. The matchup offers a chance for redemption and a test of Henryetta’s resilience as district play continues.

Kickoff is set for Friday at 7 p.m., and fans are encouraged to pack the stands to support the Knights as they aim to bounce back with renewed determination.
