Knights look to rebound after tough loss to Vian

The Henryetta Knights hit the road last Friday and battled a powerful Vian Wolverines squad, ultimately falling 48-14 in a game defined by Vian’s explosive ground attack and Henryetta’s flashes of resilience. Despite the setback, the Knights showed offensive promise behind quarterback Nakona Johnson and running back Joseph Cummings, and now turn their attention to Friday’s home matchup against the Antlers Bearcats at Cameron Field.

Vian wasted no time asserting itself in the first quarter, scoring twice – first on a 17-yard run by Cash Trammel, followed by a 35-yard touchdown pass from Trammel to Masyn Wright – to take a 14-0 lead. The Wolverines extended their advantage in the second quarter with another flurry of scoring: a 6-yard touchdown run by Draighton Fletcher, a 59-yard breakaway by Wright, and a 34-yard pass from Trammel to Fletcher, capping a dominant half with Vian up 357.

Henryetta broke through late in the second quarter when Joseph Cummings powered in from 21 yards out, cutting the deficit to 21-7 after Blaze Hill’s extra point. The Knights moved the ball well through the air and on the ground in spurts but struggled to sustain drives against the Wolverines’ defense.

The third quarter saw Vian continue to roll with Fletcher’s third touchdown of the night, a 22-yard run to extend the lead to 41-7. Henryetta responded in the fourth when Nakona Johnson connected with Gavin Williams for a 23-yard touchdown, capping a confident drive to bring the Knights’ total to 14 points. Williams was Henryetta’s most effective receiver on the night, averaging 13 yards per catch.

Vian sealed the victory late in the game with a 12-yard scoring run from Amos Wright.

With the loss, Henryetta drops to 4-3 on the season but remains optimistic heading into a pivotal home game against Antlers. The matchup offers a chance for redemption and a test of Henryetta’s resilience as district play continues.
