Beggs Elementary competes at Bishop Kelley Cross Country Meet
By Patrick Ford Editor

Beggs Elementary School runners made their presence felt at the Bishop Kelley Cross Country Meet, putting together a strong showing against some of the best young competitors in the region. With both the boys’ and girls’ teams finishing among the top contenders, Beggs Elementary’s athletes displayed grit, endurance and impressive speed over the onemile course.

— Girls One-Mile: Cranfield Leads the Charge The Beggs Elementary girls’ team captured 7th place overall out of 11 competing schools, averaging a time of 8:18.03 across their top five runners.

Leading the way was first-grader Gentry Cranfield, who turned in a remarkable 00:07:20.93, finishing 12th overall and 9th in team scoring. Cranfield’s performance stood out among older competitors, demonstrating the future strength of Beggs’ running program.

Not far behind was sixth-grader Abigail Vanderslice, clocking 00:07:34.70 to take 16th overall and 13th in team scoring. Together, Cranfield and Vanderslice formed a powerful one-two punch that helped anchor Beggs’ solid finish.

Other scorers for Beggs included:

• Hattie Leyba, 4th grade – 00:08:41.51 (46th overall, 37th in scoring)

• Madelynn Mount, 3rd grade – 00:08:53.16 (52nd overall, 41st in scoring)

• Hallie Crosby, 5th grade – 00:08:59.84 (55th overall, 44th in scoring) Rounding out the field were:

• Alayna Barton, 2nd grade – 00:10:54.17 (88th overall)

• Savannah Crosby, 2nd grade – 00:11:37.68 (93rd overall) The girls’ pack time – the gap between the first and fifth finishers – was less than 1 minute and 40 seconds, showing strong consistency and depth across the roster.

— Boys One-Mile: Woodruff, Leyba Crack Top 10 The Beggs Elementary boys’ team finished 6th overall with a combined team time average of 7:04.93, edging out perennial contenders Owasso and All Saints.

Sixth-grader KenLee Woodruff led the Golden Demons with an elite time of 00:06:20.46, earning 5th place overall out of more than 120 runners. Woodruff’s sub-6:30 pace per mile marked him as one of the fastest elementary boys in the field.

Just two seconds later, Noah Leyba (6th grade) crossed the line in 00:06:21.59, finishing 7th overall, giving Beggs two top-10 finishers in the boys’ race.

The remaining scoring runners for Beggs were:

• Wyatt Buss, 4th grade – 00:07:20.25 (36th overall, 29th scoring)

• Jaxson Smalley, 4th grade – 00:07:36.93 (49th overall, 41st scoring)

• Easton Tenison, 6th grade – 00:07:45.42 (53rd overall, 44th scoring) Beggs also saw strong efforts from:

• Hunter Curtis, 6th grade – 00:08:01.03 (61st overall)

• Wyatt Hilton, 3rd grade – 00:08:06.77 (67th overall) The boys’ top five posted a tight team split of just 1:25, with the first two runners both breaking the 6:30 mark.

— Dominant Teams & Competitive Field

The meet featured powerhouse programs like Monte Cassino, Tulsa Classical Academy and Marquette Elementary. Monte Cassino’s Henry Hartshorn (00:06:05) claimed the boys’ individual title, while Marquette’s Camryn Price (00:06:10) topped the girls’ standings.

Despite competing against much larger schools, Beggs’ runners held their own – particularly impressive given the youth of their lineup.

— Coach’s Takeaway & Program Outlook

While the report includes no direct quotes, Beggs’ team results speak volumes. The combination of youthful talent and competitive drive points toward a bright future for Beggs cross country. Cranfield’s and Woodruff’s top-10 finishes underscore a program that’s developing both speed and discipline early.

The Beggs Elementary teams will look to build on this strong showing in their next meet, with sights set on breaking more personal records and climbing the team standings as the season progresses.
