The stands at Cameron Field were filled with black and gold pride last Friday night, as the Henryetta Knights celebrated Homecoming in victorious fashion, defeating the visiting Wilburton Diggers 32-14 in a Class 2A-4 district matchup. Behind a relentless ground attack led by senior Will Perez and a strong aerial showing from quarterback Nakona Johnson, the Knights improved their season record to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in district play.
— Fast Start, Fierce Finish
The Knights and Diggers traded early punches in the first quarter, with Wilburton striking first on an 18-yard touchdown pass. But Henryetta answered immediately, as Will Perez powered into the end zone from seven yards out. Blaze Hill added the extra point to knot the score at 7-7 with just 25 seconds left in the first frame.
In the second quarter, the Knights seized control. Quarterback Nakona Johnson found sophomore Tyson Wieland for a 10-yard touchdown pass at the 8:46 mark. Then, just before halftime, Perez crossed the goal line again on a 6-yard burst, pushing the lead to 19-7.
— Balanced attack fuels Henryetta offense Henryetta totaled 381 yards of offense on 71 plays, dominating time of possession (30:51) and keeping the Diggers’ defense on its heels. The ground game was the Knights’ bread and butter, racking up 220 rushing yards on 47 carries.
Senior standout Will Perez was unstoppable, rushing 21 times for 157 yards and two touchdowns. He averaged 7.5 yards per carry and added three receptions for 15 yards through the air.
Complementing Perez was Joseph Cummings, who scored his first touchdown of the season with a hard-earned 1-yard run in the fourth quarter to seal the game. He finished with nine carries for 23 yards.
Nakona Johnson once again commanded the passing game with confidence and accuracy. The junior quarterback completed 15 of 23 passes (65%) for 161 yards and two touchdowns with zero interceptions. Johnson has now thrown for 934 yards and 12 touchdowns on the season, completing 61% of his passes through five games.

The passing game featured a balanced distribution, with six different receivers catching passes. Leading the way was Gavin Williams, who had 4 receptions for 85 yards and a 28-yard touchdown in the third quarter. Tyson Wieland matched him in catches, reeling in four receptions for 45 yards and a score.

• Haiden Kaler: 1 catch for 7 yards — Special teams, defense make their mark Kicker Blaze Hill went 2-for-4 on extra points and averaged 32.0 yards per punt on two attempts. His six kickoffs averaged 32.7 yards. On returns, Haiden Kaler gave the Knights a spark with a 21-yard kickoff return.
The defense limited Wilburton to just 160 total yards and forced two turnovers, including two interceptions. Henryetta’s defense held the Diggers to just 93 rushing yards and 67 passing yards, while limiting them to only one third-down conversion on seven attempts.

With the win, Henryetta improved to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in district play, maintaining a scoring average of 36.8 points per game while allowing just 21.8. Through five games, the Knights have scored 184 points and allowed 109.
The Knights continue district play this Friday on the road against Valliant (4-0), looking to keep momentum as the push toward postseason positioning heats up. If the Homecoming performance is any indicator, Henryetta is ready to defend its turf and chase a title.
