Demons decimated by Davis, 51-0
By TIFFANY BELL SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

The Beggs Golden Demons traveled to Davis on Friday night to take on the defending Class 2A-II state champion Wolves and came up short in a tough 51-0 district loss.

Despite the final score, Beggs (3-2, 1-1) showed early grit, nearly matching Davis (3-2, 1-1) in the opening quarter. After the Wolves opened the game with a methodical 11-play, 70yard touchdown drive, the Golden Demons responded with a promising 73-yard possession that brought them to the brink of the end zone. But on fourth-and-goal from the 1-yard line, the drive stalled just inches short, shifting the momentum.

Davis capitalized immediately, engineering a 13-play, 97-yard touchdown drive to double its lead to 14-0. The Wolves’ defense stiffened in the second quarter, forcing two more stops and setting up a 32-yard field goal just before halftime to make it 24-0.

Quarterback Ethen Davison led the Beggs offense, completing 8 of 12 passes for 62 yards. He connected with Trey Ross five times for 26 yards, while Ross also added a 25-yard catch later in the game. Davison contributed 25 rushing yards on four carries, and Jason Nethon led the ground game with 30 yards on five attempts.

Beggs managed to move the ball in spurts but struggled to finish drives, hampered by short-yardage stops and costly mistakes. The Wolves extended their lead in the second half with several big plays and a physical offensive ground attack to secure the win.

The Golden Demons now look ahead to a critical home matchup against the No. 1-ranked and undefeated Holdenville Wolverines on Friday, October 10. With both district standings and playoff positioning beginning to take shape, the game will be a key test for Beggs as it looks to bounce back in front of the home crowd.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Golden Demon Field.
