Kaden Dean delivered a sensational performance at the plate Monday to power the Preston Pirates to a commanding 13-1 victory over the NOAH Jaguars in a fall baseball matchup on their home field.
Dean drove in four runs on two crucial hits, including a two-run home run to center field and a two-run double – both coming in the same explosive second inning. The Pirates tallied 10 runs in the second to break the game wide open.
The offensive barrage began in the bottom of the first with RBI hits from Tyler Stevenson (double), Jace Basquez (triple), and Weston Cope (single), giving Preston an early 3-1 lead after falling behind on an RBI single from NOAH’s Baker Young.
The second inning saw the Pirates erupt:
• Dean’s homer brought in two
• Cope singled in a run
• Rickey Hinson, Hunter McElhannon, and Bryce McNac each drew bases-loaded walks • Dean’s second at-bat in the frame produced a tworun double
• Stevenson capped the inning with a two-run single Jace Basquez earned the win for Preston, pitching three innings with three strikeouts, allowing just one run on four hits.
Offensively, Preston collected nine hits. Dean, Basquez, Cope, and Stevenson all had two-hit outings. The team also displayed plate discipline, drawing eight walks – three each by Nick Costanza, Braxton Clarkson and Mc-Nac.
Defensively, Preston was perfect in the field with zero errors, while McNac led with three chances.
For the Jaguars, Isaac Call, Beau Young, Baker Young, and Ethan Arant had one hit apiece. Baker Young drove in the lone run for NOAH.
Preston now turns its attention to hosting Super Regionals with a State Tournament berth in sight.
Congratulations to Preston Baseball Coach Ryan Hudson, who celebrated his 500th career win Friday as the Pirates defeated Oklahoma Christian 5-1.
