The Morris Lady Eagles outhit Prague 5-4 but couldn’t convert enough opportunities into runs, falling 6-2 in a tough contest Thursday evening.
Brooke Thomas was a bright spot both on the mound and at the plate, leading Morris with two hits and pitching a complete game. The righthander allowed four hits and just two earned runs over seven innings, walking three.
Prague took the lead in the third inning on an error, and then exploded in the top of the fifth with five runs – most of which came as a result of additional defensive errors. The Lady Red Devils capitalized with a two-run error, an RBI double from Emma Hinkle and a run-scoring single from Ainsley Auld.
Offensively, Chyla Marris and Rhylee Rock each drove in a run for Morris, and Kailyn Fixico was aggressive on the base paths with two stolen bases. The Lady Eagles tallied four steals overall and turned a double play on defense.
Despite the final score, Morris showed promise with their ability to make contact at the plate and pressure opposing defenses.
