Supporters of Okmulgee High School, including alumni, former staff and passionate community members, are respectfully asking for just a little more time.
Before any final signatures are placed to begin demolition of the historic Okmulgee High School building, many are hoping for a moment of consideration – a chance to reflect, remember and respond. While change may be necessary for progress, residents are urging district leaders to ensure the community has a voice in how this chapter of Okmulgee history comes to a close.
“This building holds generations of stories,” one supporter noted. “It’s not just bricks and mortar – it’s memories, milestones and meaning.”
A full feature story on the history and future of the Okmulgee High School building will appear in an upcoming edition of the Times. In the meantime, residents are asking: What can be done to preserve the legacy? Could there be a public input forum, a preservation element or a commemorative effort to honor what this building has meant to the Bulldog family?
There’s still time to listen, to share and to plan. Even if demolition becomes inevitable, the way we say goodbye – and what we choose to remember – matters. OHS Alumni and supporters can drop a note (along with the year of graduation if from OHS) to okmulgeealumni@gmail.com.
