Livestock & Range Field Day planned Oct. 9

Oklahoma State University Agriculture will host its annual Livestock & Range Field Day Oct. 9 for producers to learn about beef production, cattle and forage management, parasite control and production economics.

OSU Agriculture Field Days are educational events presented by OSU Ag Research and OSU Extension that share research-based information and resources with Oklahomans. Field days showcase current agricultural research and relevant best practices through presentations, tours, hands-on workshops and discussions. Research at OSU locations across the state is often designed for specific applications based on region.

• Who: Oklahoma cattle producers • What: Livestock & Range Field Day

• When: Oct. 9, 8:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

• Where: OSU area research stations in Stillwater, beginning at the Willard Sparks Beef Research Center (4224 W. McElroy) — Schedule

• Effects of sire genetic capacity for growth and milk on progeny feedlot performance and robustness – Paul Beck and David Lalman, professors and Extension specialists, beef cattle nutrition

• Pulmonary arterial pressure in beef cattle: relationships with performance and bovine congestive heart failure risk – Kaylen Stearns, graduate research assistant, animal and food sciences

• Autonomous feed truck – Isaac Manley, herdsman, and Ryan Reuter, professor, range beef cattle nutrition

• Pasture drone spray demonstration and herbicide applications in pasture and range – Liberty Galvin, assistant professor and Extension specialist, weed science

• Controlling warm-season grassy weeds in pasture and hay Brian Pugh, Extension specialist, forages

• Integrated management for woody plants – Laura Goodman, associate professor and Extension specialist, rangeland ecology

• Fly management for pastured and feedlot cattle – Jonathan Cammack, assistant professor and Extension specialist, livestock entomology and parasitology • Record cattle prices: Where to from here? – Derrell Peel, professor and Extension specialist, livestock economics Check-in begins at 8 a.m. Early registration is $15 and is required by Oct. 1. Registration after Oct. 1 is $25. Lunch will be provided. ODAFF Pesticide (1a, 1b, 7a, 10 and Arial) and Certified Crop Advisor Continuing Education Units have been applied for.
