Since I’ve won the election, I’ve made a couple posts on Facebook and I’ve replied to several people that have messaged me on my phone, thanking all of them for their support, but I still can’t seem to express how thankful I am to them in a way that properly explains how I feel. The gratitude I feel is immeasurable, and the only way I feel I can earn the support I’ve received is doing a good job in that seat the people put me in.
I’ve kind of hinted and spoken about my approach to being on the school board. The main thing that everyone wanted was transparency, and I’m going to give that to them. The other two things I really want to focus on are our sports and any form of cash flow I can legally get into the school. I’ve stated this before and I’ll say it again. While the safety and education of our students and faculty is paramount, I believe a focus on these two ideas will bear fruit early and later on down the road.
I have already submitted an idea to the board that will be reviewed during our next board meeting, which should help gain us a little funding at no cost to our school. As for our athletics, I’m going to speak with our superintendent and see what the school can do as far as supporting our youth sports that are not yet in junior high or high school. I really want to set up a form of mentor program between our older kids and the next generation. I will seek to do this in a way that doesn’t affect our budget.
One final thing, my opponent, Sara McIntire mentioned wanting to focus on the college concurrent courses offered to our students. My wife and I had already planned for our son to do those, but her mentioning that made me realize others may not be aware of them, so I also want to push our youth to take those classes.
