Laugh, Cry and Celebrate Family
By Patrick Ford Editor

Get ready, Okmulgee – the Community Theatre is back with a production that’s sure to warm your heart, tickle your funny bone and maybe even make you a little hungry. This September, the Orpheum Theatre, located at 210 W. 7th St. in downtown Okmulgee, will host “Over the River and Through the Woods,” a delightful Italian comedy-drama that explores family, faith and, of course, food.

The play follows Nick, a young man caught in the whirlwind of his grandparents’ larger-than-life personalities. Every Sunday, Nick gathers around the dinner table with his grandparents, who immigrated from Italy and achieved the American dream. But this time, he has a big announcement-and finding the right moment to share it is easier said than done. Between spirited debates, family antics, and nonstop affection, Nick struggles to get a word in edgewise.

Audience members can expect a heartwarming look at family dynamics, where humor and emotion dance together like spaghetti on a fork. And for a twist that’s sure to bring down the house, the family’s version of “Trivial Pursuit” is unlike anything you’ve ever seen-fast-paced, hilarious, and full of surprises.

Showtimes are Friday, Sept. 19, and Saturday, Sept. 20, at 7:30 p.m., with a Sunday matinee on Sept. 21 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, and children 12 and under are free. Concessions will be available for anyone looking for a snack during intermission. Please note, the production carries a PG-13 rating for some mature language.

Whether you’re in it for the laughs, the drama or the irresistible family charm, “Over the River and Through the Woods” promises an unforgettable evening. Bring your loved ones, settle in, and experience a story that celebrates the joys-and occasional chaos-of family life.
