Beggs JH tops Okemah, 31-6
By TIFFANY BELL SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

The Beggs Junior High football team put on a dominant display Monday night at home, cruising to a 31-6 victory over Okemah Junior High. From the opening kickoff to the final whistle, Beggs showcased a powerful offense and a swarming defense that kept the visitors on their heels.

The game got off to an electrifying start when Beggs’ Zane Long returned the opening kickoff 71 yards for a touchdown. Michael Cruz added a successful two-point conversion run to quickly put Beggs ahead 8-0. On the ensuing kickoff, Andrew Harvey recovered a fumble, setting up another scor- ing opportunity. Just three plays later, Long punched in a 3-yard touchdown run, and Cruz once again converted a two-point run, extending the lead to 16-0.

Beggs’ defense continued to shine as Saxon Aurthurs scooped up a fumble and raced 63 yards for a touchdown. Cruz’s third two-point conversion run of the night gave Beggs a commanding 24-0 lead going into halftime.

The Demons kept the momentum going in the third quarter after a big defensive stop. Michael Cruz rushed three times for 65 yards on the opening drive, setting up a 4-yard touchdown run by Andrew Harvey. Cruz’s PAT kick was good, pushing the lead to 31-0. Cruz finished the game with over 100 yards rushing for the second game in a row.

Beggs’ seventh-grade quarterback Bowen Baker saw action in the second half and connected with Jedi Harrison on a 30-yard touchdown pass, adding a late score to cap off a dominant night.

Beggs’ balanced attack and opportunistic defense overwhelmed Okemah, who managed just a single touchdown.

The victory improves Beggs’ record to 2-0 on the season after a week one win over Okmulgee, 28-16.

Beggs will look to stay unbeaten when they travel to Kellyville for their next game on Monday, Sept. 15.
