Knights crush Okemah in explosive blowout
By Patrick Ford Editor

The Henryetta Knights delivered a dominant 43-8 home victory over the visiting Okemah Panthers. From a thunderous 76-yard opening touchdown run to stifling defense and a balanced offensive assault, Henryetta controlled every phase of the game. The scoreboard and stat sheet both told the story: this was an absolute statement win for the Knights.

— First Quarter: Fireworks Early The tone was set just under six minutes into the game when junior running back Will Perez exploded through the Okemah defense for a 76-yard touchdown run, bringing the Henryetta crowd to its feet. Kicker Blaze Hill added the extra point, giving the Knights an early 7-0 lead with 6:53 remaining in the quarter.

While Okemah moved the ball modestly with three first downs in the opening frame-all through the air-Henryetta’s defense was quick to clamp down. The Panthers finished the first with just 39 total yards and -11 rushing yards, a foreshadowing of the struggles ahead.

— Second Quarter: Air Raid & Safety

The second quarter showcased Henryetta’s air attack, directed by quarterback Nakona Johnson, who hit Haiden Kaler for a 13-yard touchdown strike with 5:48 left. Though the 2-point conversion failed, the Knights extended their lead to 130.

Just over two minutes later, Johnson struck again-this time connecting with Nathan Nail on a 21-yard touchdown. Hill booted the extra point, putting Henryetta up 20-6 with 3:25 left before halftime.

Okemah briefly found life behind quarterback Rhett Rodgers, who tossed a 21-yard touchdown pass to Jaxon Wingate, capping a well-constructed drive. However, the 2-point attempt failed, and Okemah still trailed 20-6.

A crucial special teams miscue by Henryetta with just seconds left in the half led to a safety, handing Okemah two more points and cutting the deficit to 20-8 heading into the break.

— Third Quarter: Knights Reclaim Control

Any hopes of an Okemah comeback were dashed early in the third. The Knights stuck to their strengths, and once again Will Perez delivered-this time on an 8-yard touchdown run, pushing the lead to 27-8 after Hill’s PAT.

Henryetta’s defense continued to shine, holding Okemah to a net of -3 rushing yards in the third quarter. Although Rodgers managed to complete several passes, he was forced to attempt 49 throws on the night, exposing him to constant pressure and leading to two interceptions.

Henryetta poured it on in the final frame. With 10:51 remaining, Perez added his third touchdown of the night with a bruising 7-yard run, and for good measure, powered into the endzone for a 2-point conversion, extending the blowout to 358.

Just minutes later, wide receiver Blazin Davis added flair to the night, hauling in an 8-yard touchdown pass from Johnson. Running back Mekko McNac punched in the 2-point try, sealing the final score at a lopsided 43-8.

— Team Stats

Category Henryetta Okemah First Downs 10 13 Total Plays 43 74 Total Yards 269 181 Rushing Yards 159 -6 Passing Yards 110 187 Yards Per Play 6.3 2.4 Turnovers 0 2 (INT) Penalty Yards 50 (5) 20 (4) Henryetta averaged a punishing 6.3 yards per play, while Okemah struggled to move the chains despite managing 13 first downs-most of which came through the air in short-yardage situations.

— Henryetta Highlights Will Perez (RB)

• 15 carries, 136 yards, 3 TD, long of 76 yards

• 1 2-point conversion

• Caught 1 pass for 16 yards A dynamic performance. Perez was virtually unstoppable and set the tone on the ground from the opening whistle.

Nakona Johnson (QB)

• 8-of-16 passing, 110 yards, 3 TD, 0 INT

• Spread the ball effectively, connecting with four different receivers for completions.

Receiving Corps

• Haiden Kaler: 2 catches, 48 yards, 1 TD

• Nathan Nail: 2 catches, 24 yards, 1 TD

• Blazin Davis: 1 catch, 8 yards, 1 TD

• Blaze Hill & Gavin Williams: 1 catch each Mekko McNac (RB)

• 6 carries, 25 yards, 1 2-point conversion

• Provided consistent backup rushing support.

Blaze Hill (K)

• 5 kickoffs for 268 yards, long of 56

• 2-for-3 on PATs

• 2 punts for 69 yards (34.5 avg.) — Defensive & Special Teams Impact

While the offensive explosion grabbed the headlines, Henryetta’s defense and special teams were relentless. Defensive backs capitalized on errant throws by Rodgers, picking off two passes and returning them for a combined 38 yards. The punt coverage unit limited Okemah’s return game and kept field position in the Knights’ favor.

— Tough Night for Okemah

Despite tallying 187 passing yards, the Panthers had a nightmare on the ground, finishing with -6 rushing yards on 25 attempts. Quarterback Rhett Rodgers was asked to do too much, going 27-for-49, with one touchdown and two interceptions.

His favorite target, Cole Dodson, hauled in six catches for 67 yards and the team’s only touchdown. Aaden Dunson and Brandon Butler added four catches each, combining for nearly 100 yards.

Okemah’s punting unit saw far too much action. Gage Smith punted four times for just 90 total yards (22.5 avg), further contributing to poor field position. Their lone highlight was the safety before halftime, but it wasn’t nearly enough to stop the onslaught.

— Possession Game Tells the Tale

Even though Okemah held the ball for 31:37, nearly twice as long as Henryetta’s 16:23, they couldn’t capitalize. Henryetta was explosive and efficient, scoring nearly every time they touched the ball, while Okemah’s extended drives often ended in punts or turnovers.

— Quarter-by-Quarter Breakdown Henryetta: 7 13 7 16 43 Okemah: 0 8 0 0 8 This was a signature victory for the Henryetta Knights, showing that when this team clicks on offense and plays lockdown defense, they are a force to be reckoned with in 2025. With no turnovers, a punishing ground game, and a defense that held their opponent to negative rushing yards, it was a nearly flawless outing.
