In response to growing concerns surrounding a recent decision by the Muscogee Nation Supreme Court, a Tribal Citizen’s Committee has organized a special Listening Conference to provide an informational forum for citizens. The event will take place Tuesday, Sept. 16, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Mvskoke Dome, located on the campus of the Claude Cox Omniplex in Okmulgee.
The purpose of the Listening Conference is to give Tribal citizens a chance to hear from presenters regarding the Court’s citizenship ruling and the resulting constitutional concerns. A spokesperson for the Committee emphasized that this is not a debate but an opportunity to inform and listen.
“The Committee has heard from citizens throughout the reservation and about the Constitutional Crisis from the decision. This will be a time for listening from presenters on the decision and for informational purposes only,” the spokesperson stated.
Topics covered will include an overview of the Muscogee Nation’s 1979 Constitution, the Supreme Court’s ruling, the recent Executive Order issued in response, and efforts made by the Committee to involve the Citizenship Office for additional perspective. While citizens will be allowed to ask questions, the Committee has made it clear that no negative debates will be permitted during the session.
This gathering is designed exclusively for Tribal citizens, and members of the media or media representatives will not be allowed to attend.
The Committee encourages all Muscogee Nation citizens to participate in this important conversation about the Nation’s governance and future.
