The Academy of Okmulgee (TAOO) is rolling out something special this year – a Grandparents Parade to honor and celebrate the important role grandparents play in students’ lives. The event will take place today, Sept. 5, at 2 p.m.
— A Celebration for Grandparents All grandparents are invited to participate by decorating their cars with streamers, balloons, posters or even their grandchild’s name. The school is encouraging families to be festive and creative, making the parade a fun and memorable experience for students and grandparents alike.
— Parade Route & Seating The parade lineup will begin on S. Seminole Avenue (the school’s normal pick-up line). A staff member will guide participants across the street and onto the parade route. Vehicles will turn right onto 7th Street, pass the historic Orpheum Theater and finish at S. Morton Avenue.
Students will be seated along the right-hand side of the road closest to the school, organized by grade level in designated spots. They’ll remain seated behind a chalk line until the parade ends.
— Candy Guidelines
To keep things safe and organized, grandparents may throw candy only from the right-hand side of their vehicle. Students will not be allowed to cross the street for candy during the parade. Instead, teachers will collect the candy and place it into bags for students to take home.
— Community Excitement
“This will be a special way for us to honor and celebrate our amazing grandparents while giving our students a fun and memorable experience,” TAOO staff said.
For questions, parents and grandparents can reach out to Mrs. Harbin at shirlanna.harbin@theacademyof.org.
The Academy of Okmulgee looks forward to welcoming families for this joyful event and hopes to see the community come together in celebration.
